The postgraduate Master programme in Fashion Design (Womenswear/Menswear) provides participants with the creative skills and professionalism required by the global fashion system, with outstanding links to industry and a high number of Alumni successfully placed in major fashion and luxury brands or running their own labels.

This dynamic course cultivates the design creativity, individual style and personal vision of participants while they respond to the rapidly evolving landscape of fashion through a series of project-based activities that reflect different aspects of industry practice. In this way, participants are challenged to develop their thinking about fashion – what it is and what it can become – to realise their full potential, while gaining advanced fashion design skills together with industry preparation. Participants graduate with an understanding of their unique identity as designers and of their position in the fashion industry based on market intelligence. 


Fashion Design Womenswear
• The course provides participants with an understanding of womenswear and how it has changed in contemporary society. The impact of contemporary design is addressed and questioned by challenging tradition, looking at women’s empowerment and self-awareness, while inspiring creative flair. Participants are encouraged to launch contemporary challenges, share innovative ideas and inspire new trends.

Fashion Design Menswear
 • The course provides participants with key notions for creating menswear styles and essential tailoring skills for designing high quality collections. Although gender differences are becoming increasingly subtle in fashion, menswear remains a highly attractive sector. Alongside fit, silhouettes and attention to detail, menswear designers need creativity and unique flair to be able to connect with their specific audience.

AFAM

Participants who successfully complete this Master programme will be awarded with a First Level Academic Master Diploma. Recognised by MUR (Italian Ministry of University and Research) as an academic diploma equivalent to a university postgraduate level Master degree, participants will obtain 60 CFA (crediti formativi accademici) equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.

*Pathways available in Milano ‘Fashion Design with Womenswear Pathway’, ‘Fashion Design with Menswear Pathway’ and ‘Fashion Design with Activewear Pathway’ are a specialisation of the main course recognised by MUR ‘Fashion Design’. The final diploma awarded will state the main course title.

At postgraduate level, participants will already have experience in fashion design, pattern cutting, garment making and portfolio creation in order to successfully meet the challenges of this course in conceptual research, design development and experimentation, professional project development, collection development and marketing and personal branding. They are encouraged to work experimentally with the shape and construction of garments, with the use of new technologies such as CLO 3D along with renewable and sustainable resources and to devise imaginative ways of working with materials and techniques - the true, creative artisan of fashion combined with the excellence that is “Italianness”; internationally acclaimed craftsmanshipdesign and style. The strong design and practical elements of the course run alongside contextual, theoretical, conceptual and forward-looking perspectives, leading to a dissertation project accompanied by individually proposed practical work such as a fashion artefact or capsule collection.
