Adriana Perelli’s afro - Cuban Beats

Born in Madrid in 1993, Adriana Perelli grew up in a family of jewelers and painters and has always wished to work in a creative environment. Her dream was to get into the dynamic world of Fashion Design, which is hectic and constantly on the move, just like her. After finishing High School, she decided to follow her aspirations and move to Italy to study Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni Milano. Adriana carried out a curricular project titled 'Afro-Cuban Beats,' an A/W 14-15 women's collection inspired, as the name suggests, by Afro-Cuban jazz songs. She showed her collection at Shanghai Fashion Week, London Graduate Fashion Week, and of course, at Istituto Marangoni Graduate Fashion Show. Jazz music as a bridge between the Cuban and the African cultures. A lively, charming and whimsical capsule collection which draws inspiration from the world of Carmen Miranda, protagonist of the film ‘Weekend in Havana’ (1941) and icon of Brazil’s pop culture to whom Adriana Perelli pays homage through the use of feathers, sequins, fur, and colourful prints. The references to African culture, instead, are found in the dandy style of the Sapeurs, Congolese luxury fashion addicts, masters of style and elegance. A mix of genres and cultures, for a funny and ironic woman, who is able to hide her femininity through garments inspired by the menswear haute couture.
