London Students among Mittelmoda's finalists

Two students of Istituto Marangoni London ranked among the 25 finalists of the 26th Edition of International Lab of Mittelmoda; Alessandra Tacia, Brazilian, with a MA in Fashion Design Womenswear and Andrea Roman, Italian, with a BA in Fashion Design, will fly to Milan for the final phase of the competition, which will end on September 16th, 2019. The winners will get a capsule fashion show on Mittelmoda’s catwalk and they’ll be awarded with one of the many prizes available.

Mittelmoda Fashion Award, one of the most prestigious and well-known fashion competition at global level, reserved to fashion designers and fashion design students of Art & Design colleges from all over the world has reached a number of truly amazing applications this year: sketches, photos, concepts, creations and prototypes coming from all over the world, confirming that internationality is the very essence of Mittelmoda.

The collection showcased by Alessandra Tacia is focused on femininity, subverting male-associated elements with ones associated to femininity, mixing pinstripes, plaid patterns and suits with lace and yarns, getting inspired by worlds of the past and the future, with a deep look into 20th Century cultural legacy and interest towards cult movies, books and music of this era. Her work is defined as a true wearable art and stands out for its exceptional attention to details and finishings, for its unusual shapes and creative manipulation of textiles and for a bold sophistication expressed by colors and materials.

Andrea Roman’s work consists in traditional tailoring menswear, created with experimental textiles and artisanal intricate manipulations. He combines innovation together with traditional shapes and artisanal handwork inspired by feelings and emotions captured from intense and dramatic moment in everyday’s life such as earthquakes, collapsed city and many other disasters. The Italian designer includes in his creations raw edges, unfinished sections and transparencies, representing and describing suffering generated by those events, connecting it to clean finishes and tailoring elements, that lead to rebirth.
