Tianyi Li was born in China and moved to England with her family when she was very young. In 2014, Tianyi’s creative talent was scouted by Istituto Marangoni at London Graduate Fashion Week. Her BA graduate collection ‘VIVA LA VIDA’ earned her a full scholarship to attend a Master’s course in Womenswear Design at Istituto Marangoni in London.

In 2015, Tianyi Master’s graduate collection ‘LABYRINTH’ was selected to walk the runway during Istituto Marangoni’s 80th Anniversary fashion show. During her Master’s course at Istituto Marangoni, Tianyi was able to work on projects with brands like Fyodor Golan, Vivienne Westwood, Laura Biagiotti, Giles Deacon and Alexander McQueen.

With her proposal for the S/S19 collection, Tianyi was elected as winner of the second edition of I’M Alumni Collections ®evolution, the unique mentoring project aimed at supporting talent.

Tianyi presented her first official collection ‘LIGHT & SPACE’ in September 2018, during Milan Fashion Week.

Light & Space, a collection that explores the concept of light, space and movement, imagining soft and vibrant volumes with unusual cuts, striped surfaces and natural folds, takes inspiration from the works of artist Lucio Fontana and paper engineers Richard Sweeney and Matt Shlian. For Tianyi her first collection represents an “immaculate” canvas on which to apply clean cuts and simulations that live on the border between 2D and 3D. From the careful study of pleating and folding techniques, new textures are born, suitable for constructing garments that combine deconstructed tailored jackets with voluminous baby dolls, in soft pastel colors and embellished with beads, sequins and pearls.
