You will see avatar models presenting digital-transformed, AI-boosted collections by our top graduates—emerging designers from 7 of our prestigious schools. And these creations will be set against a shape-shifting background created through the magic of Artificial Intelligence.

Gen AI is poised to unlock a whole new level of creativity, that much is for sure. Think about it – AI can analyse massive amounts of data at lightning speed, helping us spot trends before they even hit the runway. It’s like having a crystal ball for fashion. And let’s face it, who doesn’t want to be ahead of the curve?
But it’s not just about trends. AI can also assist us in the nitty-gritty of design. Imagine having a digital design assistant that learns your preferences, suggests colour palettes, and even helps with the tedious parts of the creative process. That means more time for the fun stuff, like bringing our wildest fashion dreams to life.

We also pondered what you might be thinking right now, “Wait, is this going to replace our creative genius?” The answer is no. AI is here to collaborate, not take over. Artificial Intelligence will integrate into our processes much like the advent of digital photo editing software like Photoshop did for photography decades ago. AI will be a silent buddy, a predictable and loyal ally, akin to Sancho Panza for aspiring Don Quixotes.
Not just keeping up with the times but setting the pace
Throughout 2023, our editors (Istituto Marangoni’s students, alumni, professors, mentors and technology partners) have been exploring the opportunities of AI on so many levels, craving the thrill of diving into uncharted tech waters, fuelled by a relentless desire to master new creative tools.
By the start of the year, we welcomed the release of ChatGPT to the mainstream public, then critically analysed its potential and unlocked its magic. As we played long hours with text-to-image tools like Midjourney, Dall-E and Stable Diffusion, we watched viral YouTube videos imagining Balenciaga, Gucci and other luxury brands in the style of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. Delving into these tech creative playgrounds, we imagined having ChatGPT as our classmate and realised that many digital artists have unleashed unprecedented fashion design creativity through Midjourney.
