BEAUTIFUL FAILURES

Discussing the phenomenon "l'estetica dell'errore"

This year’s theme - Beautiful Failures - is particularly thought-provoking. The concept of "Aesthetic imperfection" is redefining visual and cultural codes, transforming them into a form of creative liberation. This aesthetic breaks away from polished standards of perfection, expressed through deliberate or uncorrected flaws, irregular textures, unbalanced proportions or garments that appear intentionally “incomplete”. This mood signals a rejection of conformity and predefined standards. As Diana Marian Murek, Director of Education at Istituto Marangoni Milano, notes: «It is not a question of imperfection itself, but of what dares to exist beyond conventions».

Istituto Marangoni Milano Fosters Dialogue between Milan and Seoul

Two cultures in conversation—an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and invite Italian audiences to experience the multifaceted dynamism of South Korea. As a major force on the global stage through K-Pop, K-Drama, K-Beauty, and K-Fashion, Seoul inspires, and Milan responds, shaping this initiative as a meaningful and forward-looking exchange between two capitals renowned for their energy, vision and creativity.

Now in its third edition, Milan Loves Seoul (27 February – 2 March) offers an immersive journey into the most captivating facets of contemporary Korean fashion, beauty and culture. From the acclaimed skincare rituals behind the coveted ‘glass skin’, to sustainable fashion and cutting-edge design, the programme weaves together trends, cultural insight and innovation.

Among the headline guests is Gaho, the acclaimed voice behind the theme song of the hit K-drama Itaewon Class.

Istituto Marangoni Milano will participate as Educational Partner, playing an active role throughout the event. Organisers have emphasised the significance of this collaboration, describing the school as “a key reference point in nurturing the next generation of creative talent”.

Istituto Marangoni Milano’s Programme Highlights

Istituto Marangoni Milano will curate an exhibition space designed as a hub for dialogue and inspiration. In addition, at Palazzo Turati, a dedicated “Welcome to Italy” hub will welcome Korean designers, offering insights and perspectives as they begin exploring Italian creativity.

On 27 February at 4:00 pm, the School’s campus will host a masterclass on fashion in the age of AI, led by Carlotta Sadino, Fashion Design Programme Leader, bringing together Italian and Korean designers.

On 1 March at 11:15 am, Istituto Marangoni Milano will join Samsung on stage at the Sala Castiglioni in Palazzo Bovara for a talk exploring the impact of technology on fashion and beauty. Carolina Guajana, Fashion Business Programme Leader, will share her perspective on how innovation is reshaping both industries.

Also at Palazzo Bovara, Maresia Cristini — a recent graduate in Fashion Design & Accessories—will present three looks from her final-year collection. Displayed in a dedicated corner throughout the event, the pieces will be the centrepiece of an installation examining the dialogue between fashion and artificial intelligence. Her work stands out for its poetic dissonance, measured rigour, futuristic sensibility, and a deliberate embrace of imperfection. To engage Seoul, Milan has chosen a collection that resonates emotionally—a fusion of aesthetics, technology and creativity that speaks to both the imagination and the heart.
