devon & devon, water elements in a soothing ambience

name and surname: Nupur Bajaj and Evangelia Kouvaraki course: Home Luxury Collection · master’s course · postgraduate school: Milano School of Design nationality: India, Greece   Nupur Bajaj, born and grown up in India, did her Bachelors in Architecture from New Delhi University, and then continued studying Interior Design – Home Luxury Collection at Istituto Marangoni the School of Design in Milano. Evangelia Kouvaraki, from Greece, has extensively travelled around Europe, she graduated in interior and product design from Florence University, and is now attending the same Master’s programme as her friend Nupur. The curricular project carried out by the two participants concerned the redesign of the lobby of Devon & Devon showroom in Milano. Design and concept of the project stand out for Nupur and Evangelia’s ability to convey, in a contemporary way, the functionality trait and brand identity of the leading purveyor in contemporary classic bathroom furniture and interior decoration in Italy. In the showroom lobby, space is divided into two relaxing environments: one is designed for reading about fashion, design, and photography, while a formal work area has been conceived for business meetings. The visual perception of a dynamic interior is given by the presence of digital displays and the use of sensorial materials which recall movement through water elements into a soothing ambience. The main idea was to create a fresh experience in a relaxed mood, a cosy shelter from the hustle and bustle of the city where the sound and sense of water reflect the mood of a natural spring, in line with Devon & Devon’s commitment to blending the quest for aesthetics with technical-feasibility requirements.
