Design courses

The Design School offers numerous courses in the areas of interior, industrial and visual design, in order to meet the diverse needs of candidates, and is divided into main areas, undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes and short courses which are divided in turn into severals types of programmes.

BA (HONS) DEGREES** · THREE-YEAR COURSES*

These undergraduate programmes are designed for participants looking to enter the design field. They provide a complete education at undergraduate level and allow participants to acquire all of the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out a profession in their chosen subject.


* Participants who successfully complete the three year courses ‘Interior Design*’, ‘Product Design’, and ‘Visual Design’ in Milano, will be awarded the AFAM First Level Academic Diploma. Recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education as an academic diploma equivalent to a university undergraduate level degree, participants will obtain 180 CFA (crediti formativi accademici) equivalent to 180 ECTS credits. The pathways held in Milano ‘Interior Design & Lighting Pathway’, 'Product Design & Furniture', are a specialisation of the recognised AFAM main courses ‘Interior Design’ and 'Product Design' (Pathway final diplomas will state the main course title). Those who do not meet requirements and successfully complete the study path will be awarded an Istituto Marangoni certificate.

** Participants who successfully complete the programmes taught in English in London will be awarded a BA (Hons) degree by Manchester Metropolitan University-UK; 120 credit points must be earned for each year of study in order for an honours degree to be awarded, so students will obtain 360 credits upon successful completion of the three-year course. Participants on the four-year sandwich course will receive 120 practice credits for the additional year. All candidates should meet specific requirements (please check the website www.mmu.ac.uk/international indicating your nationality and study level). MASTER’S DEGREES** · MASTER'S COURSES*



* Students who successfully complete the programmes taught in Milano will be awarded an Istituto Marangoni certificate.
**Participants who successfully complete the programmes taught in English in London will be awarded with a Master’s Degree by (Manchester Metropolitan University-UK; Master’s Degrees include a 12-week work placement. Participants obtain 180 credits upon successful completion of the MA course. All candidates should meet specific entry requirements (please check www2.mmu.ac.uk/international/ for international equivalents).

The online and blended courses offer participants the chance to study design, in a variety of ways; either entirely online, or via a combination of classes at school, together with online lessons. Online and blended short courses cover a variety of subjects, levels and duration to suit all preferences, and are also the perfect ‘taster’ or introduction to design programmes, useful when considering more intensive study, or for future career path development.  Online and blended short courses are run over a 4-week period with 3 – 4 study hours each day.

Istituto Marangoni preparatory level courses focus on personal enrichment and enjoyment aimed at young of 16-17 years old and aspiring creatives who may be considering university level study. At this level of study there are no exams or assessments to worry about. Courses are specifically crafted for anyone interested in learning about design, from the very basics, through to some of the more interesting and complex elements. No prior technical or software skills are required.
