shanghai design contest
Giulio Cappellini, Art Director of Istituto Marangoni School of Design, was in Shanghai in early June to participate in the final round of selection of 2015 Istituto Marangoni contest for Shanghai leading Arts and Design University students. Istituto Marangoni awarded the two winners with a full scholarship to the School of Design in Milano.
Aimed at promoting cultural exchange and supporting Chinese passionate design talents, the design competition was organized in collaboration with Shanghai-Tongji University, Donghua University and Shanghai Institute of Visual Art for the design of a new seating system inspired by both western and oriental tradition. Impressed by the extraordinary work carried out by students within a very short time, on 6th and 7th June, 2015, Giulio Cappellini participated in the selection of the winners among 24 works of excellence selected for the final round.
The designers of the two best projects selected – Line Chair by He Lidi from SIVA, and Nature Soft, by Xu Zijie from DHU – get a full scholarship for a three-week training programme at Istituto Marangoni Milano School of Design. Moreover, He Lidi’s “Line Chair” will be included in the next Cappellini collection and displayed at the next Salone del Mobile.
The other 22 designers of excellence have been awarded a five-day tailored course “Fashion & Design-Italian Approach” at Istituto Marangoni Shanghai Training Centre.
After the award ceremony, Giulio Cappellini delivered a presentation on future design trend which perfectly concluded the design contest.
