Inside Madonna’s fashion reign: Long live the Queen of Pop

“What are you looking at? Strike a pose; there’s nothing to it.” The hallways echo with students humming and mimicking the voguing dance. Fortunately, even the younger generations are acquainted with Madonna, albeit not everyone.

As a professor, part of my role is to shed light on events that happened before their time. Currently, the Queen of the world’s pop music is on a global tour. In Milan, she recently performed two sold-out shows as part of her Celebration tour. During one of them, the legendary Donatella Versace made a memorable appearance, taking centre stage in a lively (and sizzling!) performance at the Mediolanum Forum.

Besides the creative director of the fashion house featuring Medusa’s head logo, the entire fashion world went into a frenzy, from Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the founding duo of Dolce&Gabbana – who also hosted an exclusive party for her at DG Martini – to Giorgio Armani, a notable presence at the show.

The Moncler family promptly outfitted her with a puffer jacket, and the contemporary artist Francesco Vezzoli passionately danced and sang while being a part of the audience at the show.

Luigi & Iango, the creative photography duo, couldn’t pass up the Milanese stop of the Celebration tour. With an intimate understanding of Madonna, having captured her essence numerous times, they recently elevated their tribute by dedicating a whole wing of their first solo exhibition at Palazzo Reale to the pop icon.

Madonna’s influence is now ubiquitous, even extending to her son, Rocco Ritchie, who is quickly becoming a cultural icon in his own right. Born in 2000, he pursued fine arts in London and has since become a versatile artist. Recently, he showcased his talents in a live body painting performance held behind closed doors in the heart of Milan, a perfect embodiment of the creative gene that runs in the family.
