TEILEN
Istituto Marangoni joined the London Design Festival again this year, from September 14-22. Now in its 17th year, the festival celebrates the best of architecture and design worldwide, with over 400 installations and pop-up events across the city, springing up in 11 postcodes. The complete calendar can be found here, but here are some of the appointments marked Istituto Marangoni. Starting on September 19th the London school presented GUILTLESS PLASTIC by Rossana Orlandi, former Alumna of the institute and now influential gallerist and curator famous all over the world. The exhibition is a real research on plastics to support environmental awareness and the urgency of taking immediate action to reduce pollution caused by plastic in the new era of sustainable design. For the first time in the UK, the entire collection of ‘Guiltless Plastic' exhibited at Istituto Marangoni London, in the heart of Shoreditch, to join the celebration of sustainable design. The selection of pieces on showcase includes works from renowned artists and designers Piero Lissoni and James Shaw, as well as pieces from emerging designers such as Sanne Schuurmaan, Federica Cammarota, Dylan Casasnovas, Milos Ristin, Joseph Andrè Szall, Massimiliano Adami, Ruben Carboni, Hester van Dijk, Alexander Schil and Bailey Allan Fontaine. The school also hosted a talk with Rossana Orlandi herself in conversation with Marcus Fairs, founder of Dezeen, on 'The Future of Plastic'. On September 20th, at I-MADE, London’s first exhibition solely dedicated to Italian design and manufacture, the A Global Context: Italian Manufacturing, Design & Educationtalk, housed in Chelsea’s iconic Saatchi Gallery, involved some of the leading figures of Istituto Marangoni Milan such as: Mark Anderson, Director of Education at Istituto Marangoni Milan Design; Giulio Cappellini, Brand Ambassador of Istituto Marangoni as moderator; Térence Coton, Alumnus of Istituto Marangoni and winner of the Red Dot Award Product Design 2018, now owner of his own studio based in Milan and London. An opportunity to discuss the fundamental role of the School in training talents from all over the world, attracted by the artisanal and productive skills of Italy and, especially, from the cultural and entrepreneurial liveliness of Milan, confirming Istituto Marangoni commitment as an international springboard for young designers and a crucial pillar for their success. Meanwhile, at the Mint Gallery, Alumnus Gustavo Martini exhibited his Italic collection. The Brazilian designer, winner of the “Next Generation Designer of The Year 2017” and former student of Istituto Marangoni Milan, as well as its Ambassador, will exhibit his creation at London Design Festival: a collection of light sculptures that explores the aesthetic aspects of the typographical universe. The writing system becomes a real sculptural subject itself: each symbol is composed of the main section and transversal lines at the ends, as a remnant of the Serifs, to suggest the public to observe moving away from traditional codes. Through this collection, Martini confirms that his work consists of exploring concepts, forms and volume to create a stripped experimental language that creates a unique style that can be easily recognized.   *Photo: ITALIC
