Le Prix Rado Star Italie 2017
Promoted by the Swiss watch brand Rado, the Rado Star Prize is an international contest that has regularly run in several countries around the world, and which supports young designers, offering them a coveted platform to show their work.
This year's Italian edition, entitled “2117 – THE WORLD OF DESIGN IN 100 YEARS”, invited the students of the Istituto Marangoni's Italian schools to imagine the future of the world of fashion and design, challenging them to create an innovative, pioneering, and solution orientated product – not a watch, but any kind of product within their field of design, choosing among five categories: Product Design, Interior Design, Fashion, Accessories, andVisual Communication.
Customer behaviours, needs, constraints, habits and desires in the world, the society, the design and fashion market in 2117 were all concepts to develop and take into account, as well as the use of innovative materials or traditional ones reinvented in a different way, in accordance with Rado's fine watchmaking tradition.
Launched last October, the competition has now come to its first crucial step: the choice of five finalists, one for each category, made by a special jury of great international standing: its members are architect Giulio Cappellini, art director at the Milano School of Design; Livia Peraldo Matton, EIC of Elle Decor Italia; Hakim El Kadiri, VP Product Development at Rado; world famous trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort; and Marva Griffin, founder and curator of Salone Satellite in Milan.
The final decision of the jury, in mid March, will preceed an exhibition of the five finalists' prototypes and concept, displayed with the other participants' boards and stories at the Milano School of Design on April 4 to 9. The award ceremony will take place on April 6.
