The FW 2016 fashion show of Rahul Mishra, alumnus of Istituto Marangoni the Milano School of Fashion, won the unanimous praise of more than 800 guests on the fifth day of the latest Paris Fashion Week.  Hailed as “the biggest find in fashion in the past 5 to 8 years” by Stephane Wargnier, Executive President of the French Federation of Couture, the Indian born designer infused with sublime craftsmanship his Girih Porcelain-themed collection, mixing materials such as neoprene, luxe leatherette, mulberry silk, organza, and merino wool, shown in a palette of colours focusing on Porcelain Blue, with black and off-white hints. Sharp tailoring and sophisticated interplay of stiffness and fluidity, sheer and opaque, provided his looks with sensual beauty, marking the presence in the collection of all the signature elements of Mishra's aesthetics. Especially noted by the press in attendance were the flowy scarf-dresses, the scalloped capes, and the Bombers and Biker jackets with kerchief-skirts. A rare Bandhini craft from Bhuj–Bharti creating dotted motifs of sparrows and flowers; cable-knit cashmere embroidery applied on a cream blouse; and delicate fabric and Chintz printed lining, testified to the exquisite attention to detail concurring to Mishra's well-deserved fame. A graduate of the Master's Course in Fashion Design Womenswear at Istituto Marangoni Milano in 2007, Rahul Mishra was born in Mahausi, India, but he lives and works in Mumbai and Delhi. His label, founded in 2008, won the International Woolmark Prize in Milano in 2014, marking his success and placing him, in August that year, amongst the BoF 500, the list of people shaping the global fashion industry drawn by the Business of Fashion. A strong supporter of a sustainable, ethical, 'slow fashion' approach, Mishra has quickly set a new standard in handmade couture, based on Indian ancient clothing design tradition while taking advantage of its emerging fashion industry, to build a strikingly elegant and modern urban wear.
