"Alice Through the Looking Glass" for Disney name and surname: Nathalie Brasser, Elena Faccio, Apurva Kulkarni, Huiyang Lu, Mereke Maralova and Shao-yu Wang course: Fashion Elite · Master’s course school: The Milano School of Fashion Nathalie Brasser, Elena Faccio, Apurva Kulkarni, Huiyang Lu, Mereke Maralova, and Shao-yu Wang are six students of the Master’s Fashion Elite at Istituto Marangoni Milano, which is restricted to a maximum of 12 excellent candidates each year, and aimed at providing tools to design, create and launch a product or collection on the global market through practical, innovative, and future-oriented approaches. The curricular project carried out by participants in the Master’s results from a partnership between Istituto Marangoni and the US media giant Walt Disney. The six young fashion talents, in fact, have been involved in the creation of a capsule collection inspired by the new film by James Bobin, co-produced by Tim Burton, "Alice Through the Looking Glass", which will be released in Italy in May 2016. The magical capsule collection consists of 10 outfits for 5 main characters, whose personalities have been outlined following the detailed brief supplied by the partner company. Based on a detailed preliminary study, an integral part of the project, the starting point was colour: the Red Queen, the White Queen, the Mad Hatter, Alice, are all represented by a nuance that reflects their essence but also their style. Each garment is characterized by theatrical elements such as ruffles and pleats, as well as more trendy prints and textures, which make the collection much more "commercial", and therefore marketable in any boutique. The participants have followed the entire creative process from the concept, to the design and production of the outfits, allocating roles independently and showing great professionalism. A Disney film crew followed them closely within the School, filming all the development stages of a balanced, creative, customized capsule, where cinema and fashion come together through colour and imagination.
