COURSE THEMES

Week 1

The program begins with a broad overview of the ‘fashion system’; the different capitals, markets, and key industry roles covering areas in design, fashion styling, and fashion business.

Participants move quickly onto basic fashion sketching skills, learning the basics of a fashion figure drawing (hand sketching), and understanding key notions in fashion illustration and how designers work to put together a fashion collection. Participants also have the opportunity to channel their creativity through hands-on workshops such as draping with fabric on a mannequin, textile exploration, and upcycling existing garments.

Week 2

Moving on the course provides a stimulating journey into the role of the professional fashion stylist, including an insight into photoshoots, fashion magazines, and trend forecasting. Learning about wardrobe basics, personal styling, spotting street style and new trends are just some of the skills participants will enjoy on this exciting short course.

Classes on fashion business introduce the digital side of fashion, looking at how new technology, social media, and Gen Z is influencing the industry.

By the end of the program participants will have gained a broad introduction to the work of the fashion designer and other key roles in this diverse and vibrant industry, and will have the opportunity to collate their creative work and findings into a ‘mini runway fashion project’.
