The Venturini twins, Giulia and Camilla, were born in Brescia and grew up in a small town on the shores of Lake Garda. They each pursued their passions in the fashion industry, with Giulia living in Paris and Milan and collaborating with the TOILETPAPER magazine founded by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, while Camilla worked in the art and photography world in New York for around a decade.

Despite the distance, the sisters always wanted to work together on a project, and in 2018 they founded MEDEA - an accessories brand paying tribute to Pierpaolo Pasolini's 1969 film. The brand seamlessly fuses the Milanese and New York influences that have inspired the sisters.

The shopping bag is the brand’s standout product, serving as a canvas for the creative potential of the two sisters who run it. The brand has created a range of limited-edition collections through collaborations with artists and photographers like Nan Goldin, Judith Bernstein, Kiko Kostadinov, and Peter Do.

The brand's communication style is also multicultural and cosmopolitan, from the irreverent campaigns by Cattelan to the one by British photographer Sharna Osborne, with music by Dev Hynes.

MEDEA is also committed to social responsibility, as seen in their collections that minimise environmental impact and aim to raise awareness. For example, the ‘Medea for Mediterranea’ project partnered with Mediterranea Saving Humans to create a special bag in a new colour each year, with proceeds going to the NGO that works to rescue migrants in distress in the stretch between Libya and Italy.
