Knitwear Design

Knitwear is one of the most dynamic and innovative areas within contemporary fashion, where traditional craftsmanship meets experimentation, material research, and creative expression. This intensive two weeks course leads students to the fundamentals of knitwear design through a hands-on and design-led approach, combining manual techniques, creative research, and fashion illustration. Set in the creative context of Istituto Marangoni Firenze, the course focuses on yarn exploration, hand knitting techniques, texture development, and conceptual design, guiding students from initial research to a portfolio-ready outcome. The course emphasizes knitwear as a key element of modern luxury collections, encouraging students to experiment with materials, colour, and surface to develop their own knitwear identity. Thanks to the strong connection between Istituto Marangoni Firenze and the excellence of the Tuscan manufactory district, the programme offers a direct experience of Made in Italy, giving the chance to visit some amazing factories and the international fair Pitti Filati (24-25 June 2026).
