Maria Consolazio and Wu Yueqi: two Istituto Marangoni Firenze students at Milano moda graduate 2021
Two young Fashion Designers from Istituto Marangoni Firenze were selected by a panel of experts to present their creations at the 2021 edition of Milano Moda Graduate, an event organised by the Italian National Chamber of Fashion to celebrate and promote Italy’s top fashion schools nationally and worldwide.
Both in their third year of the Fashion Design & Accessories Course at the Firenze School, Maria Consolazio and Wu Yueqi will have the opportunity to showcase their collections at the seventh edition of the fashion show, which will be held at the Museo della Permanente on September 26, at the end of Milan Fashion Week. An opportunity to celebrate their learning experience, but above all to transition into the world of work by networking and interacting with industry experts.
Their personalities are very different, and so are their collections, but they share a passion for fashion and a fresh way of rethinking their vision of fashion.
In all the steps of creating their capsule collection, from research, illustration, modelling, through to the making of the garments, the students were supported by Manuel Ventroni • Tutor and Unit Leader of Fashion Design courses at Istituto Marangoni Firenze. With his experience in the fashion industry, he encouraged the designers to experiment with new materials and technologies, for example by combining fabrics, renewable and sustainable resources, 3D printing or experimental cutting techniques, as well as considering finishes and details that can make the difference in a collection.
Maria Consolazio will present four outfits from her “Destination Everywhere” collection, inspired by Kafka's novel “The Metamorphosis”. Different styles and restyled shapes and silhouettes speak of the freedom of youth. A light-hearted mood that, despite the fear of the future, is imbued with the confidence and willpower that defines young people, who also hide a feeling of alienation, deconstructed as estrangement and inner journey, change and personal dualism. The result is an unconventional collection, but with minimal, structured lines.
“Jungle Camouflage” is the collection designed by Wu Yueqi, who will present one of her looks in the YKK section, main partner of Milano Moda Graduate. An outfit reminiscent of military uniforms, redesigned through multiple deconstructions and inspired by natural themes such as tree lines, mottled shadows and camouflage effects, revealing a passionate vision of the female image. A collection that features sustainable manufacturing techniques, with garments woven by hand or made with waste materials.
