Istituto Marangoni London recently completed an exciting collaboration with Sotheby’s, offering BA Interior Design students the opportunity to redefine art exhibition experiences through innovative spatial design.
This project, led by Madhurika Pandya, Programme Leader for BA Interior Design, focused on designing an immersive exhibition for Sotheby’s Modern British & Irish Art auction.
The initiative, held at Sotheby’s Bond Street, highlightsthe school’s commitment to creativity, industry engagement, and cultural storytelling.
What does the future of art exhibition design look like? At Istituto Marangoni London, students answered this question through a hands-on collaboration with Sotheby’s.
The project challenged BA Interior Design students to transform Sotheby’s historic London space into a narrative-driven, multisensory experience that celebrates Modern British & Irish Art while engaging visitors.
Throughout the project, Jamie Howell, Senior Exhibition Design Manager at Sotheby’s, played a pivotal role. He met with students at key touch points, offering guidance and feedback to help them understand how to translate cultural narratives into spatial design.
Students explored the principles of experiential design, gaining practical skills in storytelling through architecture, lighting, and materials.
The project culminated in a final presentation at Sotheby’s Bond Street, where students showcased their concepts to a panel of art and design experts.
