El Conejo Malo’s style evolution: from streetwear fan to Puerto Rican trendsetter, now everywhere with DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS
With the release of “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” it’s impossible to go anywhere without hearing Bad Bunny blasting around. The tracks from his most recent album captivate listeners everywhere; just look at the trending songs on Instagram and TikTok, where thousands of people post videos to the tune of “DtMF” (acronym of DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, obv). They even record their parents reacting to the salsa sample in “Un Verano en Nueva York”, which opens the 17-track record.

But who exactly is El Conejo Malo? Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, born in 1994 and raised in Puerto Rico, is better known by his stage name Bad Bunny. He is credited with helping Spanish-language rap music achieve mainstream popularity in the global market. Notably, he became the first non-English language singer to be Spotify’s most streamed artist of the year, accomplishing this remarkable feat three consecutive times between 2020 and 2022.
Bad Bunny has transformed from a trap icon into a leader of a salsa renaissance with his latest album. This evolution is not only musical but also stylistic. Once a lover of streetwear fashion, typical among trap artists, he has undergone a fashion makeover that took him all the way to becoming Jacquemus’ go-to menswear muse.

Much has changed since Bad Bunny rose to fame as a global Puerto Rican superstar, and his fashion journey reflects this evolution. Let’s take a look at some of his most iconic fashion moments.
Latin American Music Awards, 2017
2017 is a completely different time—it’s clear. Bad Bunny looks almost unrecognisable in this bold yellow floral suit by Gucci. Despite the dramatic outfit, he’s still rocking his signature look with a shaved head, diamond rings, and custom pendants—including one featuring a golfer emoji and another shaped like a horse—making the ensemble slightly over the top.

American Music Awards, 2018
Still on a streetwear roll, this look stands out as particularly unusual—and not just because of the third eye graphic pasted on his forehead. The chunky white Prada sneakers are somewhat acceptable, but the striped pants and blue skull shirt by SSS World Corp? Definitely unconventional choices.

iHeartRadio Music Festival, 2018
In 2018, Bad Bunny is still kicking it with streetwear, sporting his classic shaved head, sunglasses, and sneakers.

Coachella, 2019
At the 2019 edition of Coachella, Bad Bunny ventures into a more fashion-forward image, wearing a rainbow Louis Vuitton outfit and visor-like sunglasses.

Bad Bunny has never been one to shy away from challenging gender norms. As he once stated in Paper Magazine, “I’m not telling people, ‘Hey, paint your nails or colour your hair, do this or do that,’ I’m simply saying … do what makes you happy and never limit yourself. Just be yourself, and be happy in that. And also not to criticise or judge, because maybe for you something’s bad or not bad—if you like or dislike something, that doesn’t mean everyone has to share your opinion.”

SiriusXM’s Town Hall, 2020
In 2020, a more refined version of Bad Bunny starts to emerge—and his fashion-forward thinking becomes clear with the look he wore to an interview with SiriusXM. The stand-out piece? A pair of rare Stussy x Nike SB “Cherry” Dunk Lows from 2005. That and a $3,000 Staples hoodie by Louis Vuitton give the impression that the trapper is starting to step away from the very bright pieces he favoured at the beginning of his career.

The Puerto Rican sensation leans more into a Latin-inspired aesthetic by growing out his hair and wearing it in braids, a style very typical of Latino culture. He also sports a more elevated version of his typical streetwear looks, keeping it simple with an all-white ensemble.

Grammy Awards, 2021
Looking back at his early style, this all-black outfit is a far cry from the colourful shirts and suits from 2017. At the 2021 Grammy Awards, he wears a playful beanie with ears from Burberry by Riccardo Tisci, orange-tinted sunglasses by Bonnie Clyde, and a pair of black crocodile leather combat boots from a collaboration between Departamento and Premiata. Still a playful person, he keeps the look funky by holding a sunflower.

World’s Hottest Tour, 2022
“Huge” is the word that best captures Bad Bunny’s stadium tour, titled “World’s Hottest Tour.” Throughout the concerts, the artist dons multiple custom, tie-dyed sets, perfectly matching the beachy vibe of the stage design.

Met Gala, 2022
2022 marks Bad Bunny’s first Met Gala, and it is certainly one to remember. He wears a cream-coloured boiler suit courtesy of Riccardo Tisci for Burberry, which he pairs with matching leather derby shoes. His hair is styled in a mini bouffant, complete with bejewelled hair accessories.

65th Grammy Awards, 2023
With his album “Un Verano Sin Ti” nominated for Album of the Year, the 2023 Grammy Awards stand out as a key moment for Bad Bunny. He opts for a classic suit paired with a New Era Los Angeles Dodgers fitted cap featuring a grey under-brim. While he loses the Album of the Year award to Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House”, he does win the award for Best Música Urbana album.

When nominated for fifteen awards at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, he once again keeps his look simple yet stylish, wearing a white Gucci ensemble that includes the brand’s GG detail washed jeans.

Met Gala, 2023
The impressive fashion glow-up of the Puerto Rican star is particularly evident at the 2023 Met Gala, dedicated to the late couturier Karl Lagerfeld. He wears an all-white look by Jacquemus featuring a double-breasted white tweed suit, white derby shoes, tweed trousers, a backless shirt, and an eight-metre-long rosette train cape.

Les Sculptures Jacquemus campaign, 2024
Bad Bunny has been collaborating with Jacquemus since 2022, even starring in the playful Le Splash campaign. But in 2024, he transforms into a work of art himself, posing atop stone pedestals.

Met Gala, 2024
Proving that he is fashion’s IT boy and that his style journey has truly come a long way, Bad Bunny co-chairs the 2024 edition of the Met Gala. Once again embracing his Puerto Rican culture, the floral arrangement in his bouquet includes flor de maga, the national flower of Puerto Rico; roses, a symbol of beauty and purity; and the flax, the plant that Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on in the famous fairy tale. His beautiful custom suit is made by none other than Maison Margiela Artisanal and designed by John Galliano.

DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, 2025
This style evolution wouldn’t be complete without a look at his latest album, “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.” In 2025, Bad Bunny fully embraces his Puerto Rican identity, incorporating a variety of genres, including reggaeton, música jíbara, salsa, plena, bomba, house, and dembow into 17 tracks. The album also serves as a platform to raise awareness for the causes Bad Bunny that matter to him, highlighting the issues affecting his home island.
This connection to his culture is evident not only in his music but also in his fashion. On his Instagram, he shares a series of images of himself wearing traditional Puerto Rican clothing, such as the pava (a typical straw hat made from the leaves of the Puerto Rican hat palm), and holding symbolic items of the island, like a machete.
