What is Astrostyling? Discover how to choose your look according to the Zodiac

Astrology meets fashion, revealing how your Ascendant, Moon, and Venus can define a new way of fashion styling. Give this guide a try

In an era increasingly focused on identity, self-expression, and personal narrative, style has become a tool for aligning our external appearance with our internal selves. Within this context, a fascinating blend has emerged: the intersection of astrology and fashion, known as astrostyling. This hybrid approach suggests that what we wear can reflect not only mood or taste but also an even deeper aspect of ourselves—our astrological makeup.

One prominent figure in this discourse is Julia Skrypnik, a stylist, designer and alumna of Istituto Marangoni who runs her own design studio in St. Petersburg and explores the relationship between astrology and fashion. Her methodology proposes that personal style can be interpreted and influenced by star signs and the Zodiac.

“I have two passions: beauty and self-knowledge. I love transforming people, revealing their inner beauty through their outward appearance,” Skrypnik shares with MAZE35. Astrology, a field she has passionately explored for many years, is integral to her approach. Through professional training, she has come to appreciate the profound role astrology can play in personal transformation, leading her to develop her own unique approach to astrostyling. “The advantage of astrology in this process is that it provides a swift means of assessing an individual’s psychotype and behavioural tendencies, shedding light on preferences and factors that contribute to one’s comfort and ease,” she says.

But how, one might wonder, can we read our style through the stars? Skrypnik suggests that one of the key aspects to consider when it comes to astrostyling is the Ascendant, along with the planets located in the first house, especially if a planet is located directly on the Ascendant. “This information reveals how others perceive us. Essentially, our behaviour and attire influence whether or not we attract attention. This is especially relevant in situations like speeches, interviews, and any scenario where we wish to be recognised,” she explains.

Beyond the Ascendant, Venus and the Moon also play crucial roles in astrostyling. Venus governs our aesthetic preferences and the things we are naturally drawn to. However, as Skrypnik notes, these preferences do not always equate to comfort or practicality. In contrast, the Moon provides insight into what truly makes us feel at ease in our clothing.

To help individuals grasp this concept, Julia Skrypnik offers a simple guide to uncovering a style that reflects one’s true self. The process begins with creating a natal chart using a reliable astrological tool. Knowing the exact time of birth is essential, as it determines the Ascendant—the zodiac sign that was rising at the moment of one’s birth—making accuracy paramount. Next, take note of the Ascendant’s zodiac sign, as well as the positions of Venus and the Moon in your chart. Consider whether Venus and the Moon are placed in compatible elements, as this can uncover internal contradictions. For instance, you might feel compelled to purchase a piece of clothing but never wear it, which could indicate an imbalance in the stars.

“The Ascendant is metaphorically our cover,” Skrypnik asserts. “When we approach a bookstore, the first thing we notice is the cover of the book. It either draws us in or it doesn’t. While the content is undoubtedly important, we must first capture attention in order to be introduced to the substance beneath the surface.”

Skrypnik offers a familiar example in Angelina Jolie, whose Ascendant is in Cancer, a sign often associated with a feminine and nurturing image. This is reflected in her choice of soft, calming tones for her makeup and clothing, such as blue, pale pink, and pearl. Meanwhile, Venus occupies the cusp of her first house, symbolising elegance, femininity, and grace, with a focus on pastel shades and an emphasis on the waist. Venus lends an undeniable allure to her presence, contributing to her image as an epitome of beauty. On the other hand, the Moon in Aries, in aspect with Mars, lends a dynamic, action-oriented quality to her style, which is especially evident in her portrayal of characters like Lara Croft and Mrs. Smith.

Through Jolie’s example, we can see how style can align with a person’s deeper nature. By developing a style that resonates with one’s intrinsic qualities, we not only feel comfortable and beautiful but are also more likely to attract the attention we desire. At its core, astrostyling resists the fast-paced, trend-driven nature of mainstream fashion. It encourages reflection, continuity, and intentionality, suggesting that personal style is not about chasing fleeting trends. Instead, it’s about creating a unique aesthetic that suits the individual. Short-lived trends hold little significance unless they are reflected in the natal chart, where individuals must keep up with the times to maintain visibility.

Through her studies in astrostyling, expert Julia Skrypnik reveals how people can embrace a fresh, authentic look that resonates with their essence without feeling forced. “When you become yourself, it’s an experience you’ll never forget—one that feels entirely different,” she concludes, capturing the essence of her astrological approach to personal style.

While Skrypnik demonstrates that personal style is largely influenced by the Ascendant, Moon, and Venus in our charts, we can dive even deeper into what it truly means to dress in harmony with the stars through her  Zodiac-Inspired Fashion Guide.
