On the occasion of CERSAIE, the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings, Istituto Marangoni Milano Design alumnus Advay Gupta presented his project “Siena”, created in collaboration with Flaminia, an Italian design brand specializing in high-end bathroom furnishings and sanitary ware.

Recognized as one of the most prestigious global events in the fields of ceramics, surfaces, and bathroom design, CERSAIE Bologna gathers companies, architects, designers, and international professionals every year to showcase new collections, trends, and innovations. Within this context of excellence, Advay Gupta’s participation highlights how Istituto Marangoni Milano Design trains designers capable of collaborating with industry partners and turning academic concepts into real, market-ready products.

Siena: Balance and Formal Purity

Siena, the project developed by Advay in collaboration with Flaminia, stems from the intersection of design research, aesthetic sensitivity, and material experimentation.
Characterized by soft lines and balanced proportions, the collection draws inspiration from Italian architectural tradition and its harmonious relationship between geometry and light.
As described by Flaminia, Siena is “a tribute to the silent beauty of essential forms” — a design that translates the solidity of ceramics into visual lightness and refined tactility.

Through this project, Advay explores the expressive potential of ceramic material as a language of comfort and well-being, emphasizing the relationship between object, space, and daily gestures. The result is a work that merges functionality with poetic form, fully reflecting the design and cultural approach fostered at Istituto Marangoni Milano Design.

A Path of Research and Innovation

After completing his Bachelor’s in Product Design, Advay pursued a Master’s in Product Design for Human–Robot Interaction, consolidating an approach that combines creativity, technological innovation, and a human-centered design vision.
Projects such as Siena and his participation in international fairs like CERSAIE demonstrate his ability to integrate design thinking, material research, and the culture of Made in Italy.

A Transformative Experience

“For me, studying at Istituto Marangoni Milano Design was truly transformative.
It taught me much more than how to design — it taught me how to think and act like a designer.
Thanks to the school’s strong industry connections, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Giulio Cappellini, leading to projects with Flaminia and Cappellini.
What I valued most was how theory and practice were seamlessly integrated — from monthly factory visits to workshops and experiences like winning the Porada Design Award.
Each step shaped my vision of design.
Istituto Marangoni Milano Design gave me the tools, confidence, and perspective to bring ideas to life with intention and authenticity.”

From Talent to Design

Advay Gupta’s participation in CERSAIE confirms how education at Istituto Marangoni Milano Design fosters the meeting of talent, industry, and Italian design culture, offering young creatives the opportunity to engage with international contexts and bring their vision to spaces of excellence.
Through projects like Siena, the school reaffirms its role as an incubator for designers who combine technical rigor, aesthetic research, and cultural awareness — blending innovation with the timeless tradition of Made in Italy.
