Feeling overwhelmed by Milan Design Week 2026? Here’s how to navigate it

Overwhelmed by Milan Design Week 2026? A guide to what’s actually worth your time, from Prada Frames to the Soul of Space exhibit, without the rush

850 events. Six days. One city. Milan Design Week 2026, spanning the Salone del Mobile and the citywide Fuorisalone, promises it all. But for many, it quickly becomes an endurance test. The challenge is no longer what to see, but how to experience it without feeling overwhelmed. If you’re wondering how to navigate Milan Design Week 2026—what’s truly worth your time, where to begin, and how to avoid the quiet anxiety of missing out—you’re not alone. Written by a design academic and industry expert, this guide offers a more considered way through the week: not a definitive list, but a curated selection of moments that reward time, attention and curiosity.

Where to Start at Milan Design Week 2026 (Without Trying to See Everything)

Spring has finally hit Milano again, and that can only mean one thing: locals emerging from hibernation to enjoy an aperitivo, catch a nice exhibition at Palazzo Reale, and reclaim life outdoors. And, most importantly, it means Milan Design Week 2026 is just around the corner.

Taking place from 21 to 26 April, this year’s edition is packed with events, talks and exhibitions for every type of design lover, from those who are only there for the parties to those with a niche obsession with a particular type of furniture.

But for the average, design-curious newcomer, Design Week can feel a little overwhelming. With over 850 events, exhibitions and talks, how do you even begin to choose? And how do you shake the feeling that you might be missing out on something?

Here’s how to avoid the FOMO spiral this yearand actually enjoy the week.

Why Prada Frames Stands Out at Milan Design Week 2026

📍 Santa Maria delle Grazie

Now in its fifth edition, Prada Frames is an annual symposium curated by the design and research studio Formafantasma, held alongside Milan’s Salone del Mobile. Focused on ideas rather than products, the initiative sits at the intersection of design, culture and society, fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue and critical reflection on contemporary issues.

This year’s edition explores image-making as a defining element of contemporary culture, where representation often prevails over facts. The symposium will examine the tension between what is real and what is represented, as distinctions between human-authored and machine-generated images increasingly blur. Through lectures and conversations, the programme reflects on visual cultures, the environmental and social costs of digital imagery, the political uses of images, and the economies of attention that shape their circulation.

This year’s edition, entitled Politics of Desire, explores themes of sexuality, consent and emotional autonomy through the writings of two remarkable authors: Nobel Prize–winning French writer Annie Ernaux and Ghanaian novelist, academic and former education minister Ama Ata Aidoo. This is the perfect series of events to attend if you love literature and design.

How to Navigate Fuorisalone Districts Without Feeling Overwhelmed
