Communication Design
Still Standing reinterprets KNWLS through an AI-generated campaign where women remain composed inside surreal crises, turning chaos, vulnerability and survival into a visual language of self-possession.
Francesca Restelli builds the campaign from KNWLS’ codes of strength, sensuality and rebellion, placing women at the centre of deliberately impossible situations. Burning landscapes, flooded interiors, tornados and unstable environments become narrative devices, while AI supports the construction of a bold advertising world in which composure becomes the clearest expression of power.

Francesca Restelli begins with the identity of KNWLS, focusing on the label’s interpretation of femininity through sensuality, tension, rebellion and empowerment. The project identifies a recurring relationship between exposure and protection: corsetry, sculptural silhouettes and body-conscious constructions can behave almost like armour, while the brand’s imagery often places confident female figures inside emotionally charged environments. From this analysis, Restelli develops Still Standing, a campaign built around women who remain calm while the world around them becomes increasingly unstable. The concept is intentionally anti-heroic. Strength is not represented through action or spectacle, but through composure. A burning forest, a submerged car, a room covered in liquid metal, a tornado, a pink horse, a flooded Victorian interior and other surreal elements become visual manifestations of adversity. In every case, the woman remains the stable centre of the image.

AI provides the production environment for scenarios that would be impractical, dangerous or excessively complex to realise physically. Rather than using surrealism as an isolated visual effect, the project connects each impossible situation to the central idea of endurance. Detailed prompts specify model characteristics, exact fashion products, environments, weather conditions, natural lighting and narrative elements. One image places a model on a partially submerged vintage car while a forest burns behind her; another surrounds a relaxed figure with futuristic liquid metal in an old interior; elsewhere, a tornado and sandstorm become a metaphor for difficulties accumulated from childhood to adulthood. A flooded Victorian house introduces sharks, floating objects and incoming weapons while the model remains composed. These scenes demonstrate how generative technology can function as a world-building tool, allowing creative direction to coordinate styling, setting, atmosphere and narrative within a unified brand proposition.

The resulting campaign transforms the phrase Still Standing into a consistent communication device across the series. Each image offers a different narrative, but the relationship between extreme environment and controlled female presence creates continuity. KNWLS garments remain visible and recognisable within the compositions, ensuring that the surreal environments support rather than replace the fashion message. The project also tests the imagery as advertising rather than limiting it to presentation boards: campaign visuals are placed into outdoor and urban media contexts, demonstrating how the creative concept could move from experimental image generation into public-facing brand communication. Across the sequence, the woman becomes an anti-hero whose strength is communicated through attitude rather than conventional heroic action. By connecting analysis of brand codes, styling, AI world-building and advertising application, Still Standing demonstrates how generative image-making can expand campaign storytelling while retaining a clear strategic relationship with fashion identity.
