Wang Zixuan — Body Pain

Fashion Design & Innovation

Body Pain translates physical and emotional tension into abstract textile surfaces, using AI to reinterpret pressure, bruising, fracture and rhythm as refined, repeatable patterns for contemporary fashion and design practice.

BODY PAIN — ABSTRACTED SENSATIONS EVOLVE INTO REFINED REPEATABLE FASHION SURFACES

Body Pain investigates how physical and emotional tension can be represented through textile print without relying on explicit anatomical imagery. Wang Zixuan abstracts sensations such as compression, bruising, swelling, burning, stabbing, tearing, pulsation and corrosion into restrained, repeatable surfaces designed for fashion.

From Research to Visual Language

The project begins with close observations of pressure, skin folds, bruised colour, X-ray structures, scar-like marks, stretched materials and fluctuating rhythms. These references are translated into formal qualities rather than reproduced literally. Compression becomes bulging and recessed forms; bruising becomes diffused colour and grain; structural pain becomes branching silhouettes and glowing fractures. Other prints use puncture rhythms, wave-like repetition and eroded clusters to represent sudden or persistent discomfort. The resulting language balances emotional intensity with the refinement required for wearable textile design.

AI as a Creative Design System

AI is guided through highly specific prompts that define palette, surface behaviour, abstraction and repeat construction. A recurring instruction is to remove faces, wounds, literal bones and medical symbolism, preserving only the visual properties of pressure, fracture, diffusion or strain. The system is also asked to produce seamless edges, controlled contrast and textile-ready compositions. These constraints demonstrate a critical use of prompting: the student does not ask AI to illustrate pain directly, but directs it to convert sensation into an abstract design grammar suitable for fashion.

From Digital Print to Fashion Application

The motifs are developed as 21 × 21 cm modules and presented through larger repeat swatches before being applied to dresses, coats, jackets, skirts, tops and other garments. The mock-ups test how pattern density, scale and colour behave across different silhouettes and surface areas. By progressing from sensory research to abstract generation and fashion visualisation, Body Pain demonstrates how AI can support the design of emotionally expressive prints while technical choices ensure that the results remain controlled, wearable and adaptable to different product categories.
