TALENT CONTEST IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NEIL BARRETT
Unleash your creativity and redefine menswear through innovation, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. In collaboration with visionary designer Neil Barrett, Istituto Marangoni London launches a unique scholarship contest for exceptional Undergraduate and Postgraduate applicants.
Neil Barrett is a pioneering force in modern menswear, known for his minimalist aesthetic, razor-sharp tailoring, and fusion of sportswear with luxury fashion. He launched his eponymous label in 1999, redefining the codes of contemporary menswear through innovation, precision craftsmanship, and a unique blend of tailoring and streetwear. His work continues to push boundaries, inspiring a new generation of designers to merge function with style in a distinctly modern way.
THE CONTEST
To participate in this scholarship initiative, applicants are required to design a menswear capsule collection, with a strong focus on: Tailoring, Craftsmanship and Streetwear Innovation.
Partecipants are encouraged to consider the evolution of menswear and explore how traditional sartorial techniques can intersect with contemporary streetwear aesthetics and cultural movements. Your task is to investigate how menswear can evolve through the lens of design innovation, cultural relevance, and craftsmanship. Identify shifts within the fashion industry—such as the blurring lines between formal and casualwear, gender fluidity in menswear, or the influence of street culture on luxury fashion.
You should take a creative and forward-thinking approach to defining a concept and design a capsule collection that addresses your chosen area of focus.
Submit a digital portfolio including the following:
- A clearly articulated concept or theme
- Research visuals that demonstrate your inspiration and thought process
- Design development through sketches, illustrations, or digital renderings
- A final capsule collection of 6 menswear looks
The portfolio can be up to a maximum of 20 pages and submitted in pdf format.
