By studying the main contemporary artistic movements, and the latest styles and trends which influence accessories design, participants develop an aesthetic sensitivity, appreciating the intrinsic values and characteristics of an accessories product, namely the emotions and perceptions customers take from a fashion item to produce products that create desire. They learn how to research and contextualise ideas and are encouraged to experiment with new approaches in the industry that are evolving today, including renewable and sustainable resources, innovative materials and new technologies, building individual style and creative and professional abilities. Participants also explore how Italian manufacturing is exemplary in its identification and use of materials and manufacturing techniques, giving a focus on the excellence that is “Italianness”: craftsmanship, design and style. 

The use of traditional techniques and new technologies are well balanced to ensure participants gain comprehensive skills in all areas: from hand illustration, to the latest software packages, progressing through 2D into 3D design, and also 3D printing techniques. They understand the viability of accessory production and development, working and evaluating material requirements via full shape analysis. 

Focusing on the contemporary fashion scenario, the course provides students the opportunity to investigate the intrinsic added values and characteristics of accessories, garments or fashion products, understanding how to design items that create desire. 

During the course participants are encouraged to experiment with new materials and technologies, learning at the same time the use of a flamboyant pairing of fabrics, renewable and sustainable resources, 3D printing or experimental cutting techniques, as well as evaluating fabric embellishment and details that make the ‘difference’ for a winning collection. Research into fashion history and culture and historic references in art and dress further enhance creative thinking, meanwhile communication skills provide a professional approach in the negotiation and presentation of final design ideas to companies and new clients.

The three-year Course in Fashion Design & Accessories is based on various learning and teaching methods including: seminars, tutorials, workshops, classroom lessons, ITC workshops, group projects and individual research.

Trainees carry out specific research projects with photographs, drawings, collages, fabric samples and other elements needed to design their first creative ideas. Pattern-making lessons provide them with the skills required to make patterns for the simplest garments. Trainees will also learn to use the most widely used graphic software and visual communication techniques.

Trainees will explore the relationship between the artistic movements and the evolution of clothing in a social, cultural and historical contexts and the way in which these are interpreted in the most recent fashion collections. From the second year, trainees move closer to design, developing their personal style and creating collections.

They work on patterns and prototypes and gain experience in the use of fabrics by creating trial patterns and canvases, defining the production processes. In the last semesters, lessons will provide trainees with the opportunity to perform critical research and acquire in-depth knowledge of a specialist area within their field of study.

They are encouraged to experiment, to create a highly professional design in which to illustrate their personal vision of fashion.

The Economics and Marketing lessons will help trainees research and analyze the market, understand customer demographics, competitors, sale prices, marketing methods, promotion and how to prepare a business plan. 

Istituto Marangoni Riyadh offers 3-year Advanced Training Diploma programs that cater to the specific demands of the local job market for the chosen specialization.

As part of the didactical experience provided to its trainees, the Diploma include an internship period (“Cooperative Training”) which is embedded in the Study Plan of each programme at the third year. This working experience allows trainees to take advantage of skills and topics learned during lessons, putting them into concrete practice within a real professional environment. The internship consists of a period of an experience in professional practice through the realization of individual or group project in collaboration with institutions or companies on their premises, or on the institute’s premises (internship on campus).

A portfolio of works will be presented to support the final project, which for trainees is a point of arrival enabling them to communicate their ideas effectively and preparing them to deal with the main players in the fashion industry: customers, employers and sponsors.

Students can have the opportunity to either complete their study path in Saudi Arabia or take advantage from Study Abroad mobility towards Istituto Marangoni campuses.

Students who complete the 3-year program at Istituto Marangoni Riyadh will receive an Advanced Training Diploma, certified by TVTC and recognized in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The program includes a 6-month internship (Cooperative Training).

After 2 years students can progress to the final year at Istituto Marangoni London or Paris and get a Bachelor's Degree in the chosen field of study.
