Fashion Design & Product Management Intensive
Design, Plan, Develop, Present: fashion design to final product
Discover the key technical skills and theoretical concepts related to two of the most important profiles in the fashion industry: fashion design and product management. The roles of designer and product manager are both carved from a solid base in fashion design: from illustration and design, to prototype, planning and development. These highly sought after professional profiles work irrevocably side by side, in every sector of the industry including womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, accessories, and footwear design etc. Studying on a limited time frame, this intensive course provides participants with a unique opportunity to discover both aspects of the industry, providing key fashion design skills, and a fundamental insight into developing fashion collections for manufacturers, retailers, or individual brands.
From freehand drawing techniques and the basics of clothing manufacture, participants quickly progress onto more technical aspects of fashion design such as fabric analysis, garment structure, and individual creative research to analyse and encourage innovative design and style. Moving through manufacturing and production processes the course introduces additional factors into the design of fashion garments, such as the influences and needs of the market, production costs, range planning and budget management or specific requests from a client brief or brand image. The main notions of market research further support the creation of original ideas, while trend analysis and forecasting skills show how to stay ahead of new movements and influences in fashion.
This dynamic course also focuses on the influence of sustainability and ethical issues in garment design, manufacturing and production; vitally important issues within the industry today, with companies from fast fashion to luxury brands expanding the area of corporate responsibility. Throughout the course participants are encouraged to develop their own individual ‘visual language’, expressing their style through professional presentation methods and via a final portfolio of designs, and development support materials such as ‘tech packs’. With key fashion design and product development skills participants are ready to move forward in the fashion design and luxury industries.
