From concept to collection

Developing a fashion collection is a process of constant evolution. Beginning with research, sketching and illustration, students translated their ideas into considered design proposals, exploring fabrics, construction, volume and silhouette to shape their individual creative identities.

Throughout this journey, Neil Barrett provided critical feedback and professional insight during a series of review sessions, encouraging students to challenge their ideas, refine their concepts and approach each stage of the design process with clarity and intention. By sharing his experience and creative methodology, he helped students navigate the transition from concept to realised collection.

The importance of the fitting

Ahead of the annual Fashion Show, students presented their completed looks during a final fitting and review with Neil Barrett. More than a technical assessment, the fitting represented a pivotal creative moment—an opportunity to evaluate proportions, silhouettes and construction while making the final refinements that bring a collection to life.

As Neil explains, it is often through the fitting process that new ideas emerge, revealing possibilities that cannot be anticipated on paper alone.

“It’s always enlightening to see how students develop their ideas.”
