The award ceremony of the 4th Design Award organized by the historic furniture manufacturer based in Cantù (Como) Riva 1920 was held on April 7, 2017. At the Arena of Salone Satellite, as part of the Salone del Mobile exhibition in Milano, the young Istituto Marangoni Product Design student Bibimariyam Mussakhanova won third prize in the under 26 category. At its fourth edition this year, the International Design Award contest "Light up your vision" is promoted by Riva 1920, a leading company in the high-end furniture industry specializing in the production of designer furniture in solid wood, as an initiative to support emerging designers and nurture young talent. This year, the competition required participants to design a chair in solid wood able to meet criteria of aesthetics, functionality and ergonomics while respecting the peculiarities of the materials used, harmoniously integrating with Riva 1920’s style and enhancing, at the same time, the essence of the brand. The projects selected by the jury, in fact, will be included in the extensive portfolio of Riva 1920 products of the same line. Among the over 600 projects submitted from around the world, the selection committee, composed of experienced design professionals of international renown, has spotted a deserving talent in Bibimariyam Mussakhanova, student in the Product Design course of Istituto Marangoni Design School; as a result, she has won third prize in the under 26 category with her Pine Cone Chair project. Bibimariyam, of Indian origin, was also one of the three finalists at the Rado Star Prize Italy 2017 competition, whose awards ceremony was held on April 6 in the premises of the School of Design on Via Cerva.
