Alumnus Gustavo Martini wins the Wallpaper* Design Award 2018
Yet another important acknowledgement for one of the most talented alumni of the Milano School of Design: Gustavo Martini wins the Wallpaper Design Award 2018 for the Best Squaring Up category.
His furniture collection “The Grove”, crafted from grids of electro-welded steel and cork, perfectly matches the category’s request to work the right angles. Alongside Martini’s collection, Saint Laurent was also awarded in the same category, with a sequined mini-dress with crystal-embellished epaulets designed by Anthony Vaccarello.
“The Grove” is inspired by urban landscapes and by the desire to bring more green to the cities: the development of the collection focused on a scene where the treetop line divides the buildings to create a furniture family, where the top-half is made of cork and the lower part is made of a structural grid.
The collection was presented in Milan at Salone Satellite 2017 and is supported by Italian metalwork company Carlo Citterio and Portuguese company Creative-Cork.
Born in Brazil in 1987, after graduating in Industrial Design from PUC-Rio University, Gustavo moved to Milan to study Italian Product Design at Istituto Marangoni, where he graduated in 2015. During Salone del Mobile 2017 he joined the Young Designer Store project, launched by Istituto Marangoni to support the talent of Alumni designers in collaboration with Amazon.it and which brought to the creation of a capsule collection available on Amazon website. Last year, he was awarded as Next Generation Designer by Wallpaper*, and was highly praised by Tony Chambers, Brand and Content Director of Wallpaper* Magazine.
