9th July, 2014. Istituto Marangoni alumnus Matteo Lamandini is the winner of the “Designer for Tomorrow” fashion talent award presented by department store chain Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf and its online shop Fashion ID. “Designer for Tomorrow” is held during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlinand provides emerging talents a great opportunity to put forward their ideas and designs, as American designer Tommy Hilfiger – patron of the initiative – claims an ongoing support to young and rising designers by providing a visible platform for creativity. Among the five finalists who presented their outfits at the award show in Berlin, Matteo Lamandini’s winning collection “Zoot Suit” impressed the Jury Board for the modern twist given to conventional items through a joyful juxtaposition of patterns and the blending of traditional elements with structured silhouettes. Lamandini graduated in Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni Milano in 2013. He is now making his first foray into the fashion industry through an extreme, seemingly trivial approach to fashion, elegantly forging a unique personal style. The inspiration for “Zoot Suit” comes from the eponymous American movement of the late 1930s and early 1940s, “from young guys who protest against the society dressed  sumptuously with tailored outfits” he declared. As the winner of DfT 2014, Matteo will be granted a sustainable, individual sponsorship and personal mentoring by the Patron Tommy Hilfiger and the Advisory Board for his next collection, as well as his solo fashion show to be held at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin next year.
