functional vs non-functional: the istanbul contest

Interconnection - forms & functions is the title of an exciting creativity contest of art and design promoted in Istanbul by Istituto Marangoni with the Kadikoy Municipality (Istanbul) and Firenze Yurtdışı Eğitim. Inspired by the idea of fusing functional and non-functional, the contest is open to young artists, designers and fashion designers, invited to submit a project of either a functional object, garment or accessory with a non-functional reinterpretation; or of an artistic, non-functional creation transformed into a functional item. Participants shall submit their works to the address firenze@firenze.com.tr no later than Tuesday, March 15th. The winner will be awarded with a 100% scholarship (excluding accommodation) to attend one of the short courses offered in Italy by Istituto Marangoni, with intakes between the end of June and September 2016. The award ceremony will take place at the TAK Kadikoy on Tuesday, March 22nd after the lecture 'Form and Function'. A possible dialogue between Art and Design delivered by art historian and curator Alessandro Castiglioni, tutor of History of Art and Design at Istituto Marangoni in Milano. A prominent figure within the art world, author of celebrated monographs, books and essays, Alessandro Castiglioni has worked with leading Italian and international institutions, including La Triennale in Milano, MCA in Valletta (Malta), the National Gallery of Iceland in Reykjavik (Iceland), the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich and the MCBA in Lausanne (Switzerland).
