Giulio Cappellini In Conversation With...

Tom Dixon and Jay Osgerby, moderated by Sarah Douglas, Wallpaper*

Istituto Marangoni London seized a unique opportunity during the London Design Festival (LDF) to gather under its roof a panel of contemporary design legends.

The event not only underscored Istituto Marangoni's commitment to design education but also served as a platform for envisioning the exciting future of design and innovation.

The event boasted an impressive line-up of guests. Giulio Cappellini, a prominent figure on the global design stage as well as a long-time art director for Istituto Marangoni Milano, was joined by Tom Dixon, a celebrated British designer specialising in accessories and furniture, and Edward Barber from Barber Osgerby, an esteemed London-based industrial design studio located in the heart of East London. The discussion was moderated by Sarah Douglas, the editor-in-chief of Wallpaper* magazine, a true authority in the world of design.

As an integral part of the LDF23 and Shoreditch Design Triangle, Istituto Marangoni initiated a thought-provoking discussion on 'Future Landscapes.' This engaging dialogue delved into the future of both public and private spaces, offering valuable insights into the evolving world of design by the voices of three of the most reputable contemporary designers.

This event not only underscored Istituto Marangoni's commitment to design education but also served as a platform for envisioning the exciting future of design and innovation.

Giulio Cappellini spoke passionately about the essence of design. He highlighted the challenge of selecting from a myriad of global creations, dreaming of a multicultural design world that celebrates the freedom of living spaces. He envisioned a future where interiors become more humane, blurring the lines between work and life.

Dixon emphasized the importance of openness to new ideas and collaborations, reflecting on the significance of showing prototypes and refining them into final products.

This insightful conversation underlined the ever-evolving nature of design and the importance of constant improvement, emotional resonance, and social relevance in the field. As part of their educational path, Istituto Marangoni London’s aspiring designers from our courses in BA Interior Design, Visual Design, and MA in Product, Jewellery, and Interior Design could draw inspiration from these seasoned professionals' dedication to their craft and their commitment to making a meaningful impact through design.
