Created by the denim leader ISKO™ to inspire, train and educate young denim talents, the ISKO I-SKOOL™ Denim Design contest involves students of Fashion Design in the innovation of the denim world while taking them on a journey of discovery through the entire denim supply chain. This year the spotlight laid on the Undocumented theme, something unseen that speaks a new language, that challenged designers-to-be with the creation of their denim garment, exploring the latest issues in the denim sector, such as sustainability, and trying to imagine the Undocumented future of denim. The 5th edition grand finale took place in the beautiful BASE space in Milan, where the 20 finalists showcased their designs on the catwalk in front of a special jury chaired by Sarah and Carol Piron (Filles a Papa). Taking into account the relevance to the Undocumented Creative Theme and the marketability of the garments, the jury selected the winners for the Denim Design Awards. Among them, Istituto Marangoni is delighted to announce that talented student Lucila Nair Pieres, of the Firenze School of Fashion, was awarded the Sustainable & Circular Design prize by Riri Group. Lucila’s The Second Chance project explores one of today’s greatest problems: waste from exaggerated consumption. Her work, therefore, looks at how waste crisis can be resolved (or limited) and finds the answer in fabric recycled from plastic bottles, alternative fibers for denim, and re-use of garments, giving them a second functionality, a second chance of use.
