Istituto Marangoni joined the renowned Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Mexico City by presenting SSHEENA and Tianyi Li, brands of two emerging and promising designers and among the most talented Alumni. SSHEENA, an Italian brand of craftsmanship, non-conformism and momentum towards the future, is signed by Sabrina Mandelli who graduated from Istituto Marangoni Milano in 2008; Tianyi Li is a talented fashion designer and winner of the 2018 I’M Alumni Collections ®evolution, a one-of-a-kind project enhancing Istituto Marangoni’s talents. The two designers from Europe showcased their new collections on Frontón México's runway on April 4. For AW 19, SSHEENA created ‘Villa Sorriso’, a collection that contemplates a futuristic gynaecium where women from various social and cultural background meet up to share, have fun, relax and debate or simply to be and not to be at the very same time. Differently from the ancient gynaecium, SSHEENA’s one is a place where women reaffirm their individuality and their sexuality in a form of autoerotism. We find modern sirens with petticoat with paillettes; businesswomen dressed in formal coats and secretaries in pleated skirts; wannabe actresses wearing dresses resembling a tapestry. For her second collection, Tianyi Li looks back at her childhood while growing up by the sea in Brighton. The collection, called ‘Memories’, draws inspiration from Tianyi’s reminiscences of her school days, friendships and youth. ‘Memories’ plays with deconstructed blazers, asymmetric dresses, long shirts and voluminous skirts. The collection emphasizes the curves of the feminine body through the use of contrasting panels of wools, crepe and duchess satin. Excess layers of silk organza, soft tulle and corded lace are fused with a dark colour palette of bold reds, wine, navy and black, that are accompanied with elements of military detailing.
