Nicola Brognano wins "Who is On Next?"

Sponsored every year by AltaRoma in cooperation with Vogue Italia, Who Is On Next? is one of the most prestigious international events dedicated to the promotion of young international creative talents, that produce their collections in Italy. Now in its twelfth year, in the past the contest has already launched the career of Daizy Shely, the Istituto Marangoni alumna who won the 2014 edition. This year's jury, made of high-profile industry, distribution and press professionals (including Silvia Venturini Fendi, President of AltaRoma, Carlo Capasa, President of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Franca Sozzani, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italia, Suzy Menkes, International Vogue Editor, the designer Stella Jean, Godfrey Deeny, Fashion Editor at Large of Le Figaro, and Sara Maino, Senior Editor of Vogue Italia and Head of Vogue Talents), chose Nicola Brognano, designer of the brand Brognano and a 2011 Fashion Design graduate of Istituto Marangoni The Milano School of Fashion, as winner of the Womenswear category. Awarded by Franca Sozzani, Nicola Brognano won the favour of the jury with his Spring Summer 2017 collection; an intense, personal interpretation of two aesthetically opposed worlds, mixed together: the visionary romanticism of French haute couture, and street wear, with its bold shapes and ample proportions. Influenced by the character of “Susy” in Federico Fellini's masterpiece “Giulietta degli Spiriti”, the young designer created the character  of an eccentric, irreverent woman living between dream and reality. Refined details such as ruches, floral and animal prints, and bodices, make up fluid, hyper-feminine dresses, mixed with menswear trousers, ample sweatshirts and sporty outwear enriched by inscriptions that look at the logos of American street wear. The achievement of Nicola Brognano comes as a confirmation of his great creative talent, developed with passion and rigour in the years spent studying at Istituto Marangoni, where he learned the values of craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit that drove him to found his brand, now launched toward a well-deserved international success.
