The Philippine Daily Inquirer, the leading newspaper in Southeast Asia, and LOOK Magazine, its premium fashion and lifestyle glossy, have been organising the sixth Look Of Style Award (LOSA) in collaboration with the British Council: a fashion contest open to young and promising Filipino talent in search of the best opportunity to develop their skills through education, mentoring and international exposure. Winners of the two categories of the contest, Ready-to-wear and Accessories, will be awarded this year with a full scholarship to attend one of the short courses proposed by Istituto Marangoni The London School of Fashion, giving them the unique chance to perfect their abilities through the school's signature educational methods. The LOSA event takes place at SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Manila, end of March, and will include a day of workshops open to 50 finalists of the contest and students of the capital's schools on Wednesday 30; followed by the exclusive awards ceremony on Thursday 31st, attended by a select group of local fashion designers, entrepreneurs, celebrities and socialites. Following the fashion show, presenting the collections of the 50 finalists, the award ceremony saw the two winners being officially announced by the jury, including amongst its members Emanuele Colombo, Director of Education of Istituto Marangoni Fashion Training Centre in Shanghai. Eugene Tidalgo, the winner for Ready-to-wear, presented a capsule collection in which the classic British trench coat inspired a modern reinterpretation of silhouettes and textures, mixing handwoven igorot and cotton in a blend of tradition and modernity. Miki Olaguer, who won in the Accessories category, presented instead a small collection of elegantly crafted jewels combining whimsical forms with mother-of-pearl.

30th march · 'from style alphabet to fashion tales'

from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m  Istituto Marangoni will host in Manila a lecture and workshop delivered by Emanuele Colombo, Shanghai Training Centre Director of Education, on the communication strategies and the cultural and social perspectives defining creative process in fashion. While the 'style alphabet' reflects the complexity of this mix, the seasonal 'fashion tale' is the constant and effortless run for ‘the new it thing’. This lecture will analyse the power of a style alphabet in contemporary fashion, while the workshop will guide participants to writing their own unique grammar.
