Milano The School of Design

The School of Design

Milan is synonymous with design, and no wonder. It unites a rich history with a continued vital role in the global design landscape that is always respectful of the past but has an eye towards the future. This unique approach to research and experimentation is also reflected in the Milano Design School, where participants will be challenged with projects from artisanal furniture to high-end inspirational design for interiors, products, and visual graphics. All courses at Istituto Marangoni Milano Design School are underpinned by a contemporary aesthetic approach, and a heavy dose of fashion cross-pollination, thanks to the luxury and fashion found around every corner. This design culture is closely linked with the city’s design district and the community of creative designers who are drawn to study, work and live in this fertile environment, leading to an exclusive mix of cutting-edge design paired with new technologies, and an eye for commerce that successfully combines theory with practice.

Living Marangoni: the student experience beyond the classroom

At Istituto Marangoni Milano Design, education extends far beyond the classroom. The student journey here is not only about acquiring technical skills and academic knowledge—it’s also about building meaningful connections, discovering new passions, and fully experiencing life as part of a vibrant creative community.

Throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, and thanks to the constant support of the Student Desk department, the school offered a diverse and carefully curated calendar of extracurricular activities. These experiences allowed students to explore the city, express themselves, and connect with peers in ways that deeply enriched their time at Marangoni.

Cinema, Culture and Community

Two dedicated movie nights at Anteo Cinema gave students the opportunity to enjoy a shared cultural experience in a welcoming and engaging environment. These evenings encouraged conversation, reflection, and a sense of togetherness outside the academic routine.

Movement and Wellbeing

At Gyru Studio, students participated in a high-energy indoor cycling class, combining physical wellbeing with music and motivation. It was an ideal break from study—revitalizing both body and mind while fostering group spirit.

Italian Culinary Tradition

One of the most appreciated moments was a hands-on cooking class at Mi Scusi, where students learned to prepare traditional Italian pasta. The experience blended culture, gastronomy, and fun in a way that reflected both Milanese life and international community values.

A Day in Florence

A highlight of the year was the day trip to Florence, which included a guided walking tour of the historic center followed by an exclusive aperitivo at Gucci Garden. It was a journey into art, fashion, and Italian heritage, offering students a rich blend of inspiration and social connection.

The Rise of the MID Sport Club

One of the most exciting new additions this year was the creation of the MID Sport Club, an initiative born directly from student enthusiasm and developed with the support of the Student Desk. The club now includes three active groups: five-a-side football, beach volleyball, and basketball. Weekly games and training sessions have become a dynamic space for students to engage socially, stay active, and develop strong teamwork skills.

Beyond Education

At Istituto Marangoni Milano Design, life outside the classroom is seen as essential to the learning process. These extracurricular activities are not simply a supplement—they are a key component of a student’s personal and professional development.

Through cultural immersion, physical activity, artistic exploration, and community-building, students are encouraged to grow as individuals and as future designers. In this environment, every experience becomes part of a richer, more holistic education—one that prepares them not only for careers in design, but for life beyond it.

An Epiphany of Italian Living with Trussardi Home

In the creative heart of Milan, Istituto Marangoni Milano Design reaffirmed its role as a benchmark in the education of future professionals in design and visual communication. The collaboration with Trussardi Home, a historic brand in high-end interior design, gave life to an outstanding project that blended heritage, creativity, and strategic innovation.

An immersive project to express “Milanesità”

Under the evocative title “An Epiphany of Italian Living”, students from the Master in Digital Art Direction and Digital Design for Immersive Experiences were challenged to develop a digital activation concept aimed at communicating Trussardi Home’s new brand positioning. The brief presented a concrete and ambitious challenge: to reinterpret the concept of the Italian home through the lenses of contemporary design, digital culture, and experiential communication.

Outstanding mentorship for an integrated vision

Guided by a distinguished team —Francesco Bernabei (founder of MONOGRID), Andrea Bomentre (M&C Saatchi Italy), and Massimo Lorusso, Creative Director of Trussardi Home — the students shaped projects that merged creativity, technology, and strategy. This pathway fully embodied the educational approach of Istituto Marangoni Milano Design: learning by doing, in constant dialogue with leading industry professionals.

Design as a cultural and digital language

Trussardi Home’s identity — understated, refined, and rooted in a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship — became the starting point for exploring new forms of digital storytelling. The project proposals that emerged from the students’ creative lab reflected the essence of contemporary living, where aesthetics, functionality, and emotional storytelling blended into immersive and meaningful experiences.

Research, experimentation, and design culture

This project allowed students to engage in every phase of a professional design process: from market analysis and concept development to the creation of digital and technical content. With ongoing support from tutors and mentors, each proposal became a concrete example of how creative thinking and strategic vision could converge in the world of design and communication.

A case study by Istituto Marangoni Milano Design

“An Epiphany of Italian Living with Trussardi Home” was much more than an academic exercise — it stood as a tangible demonstration of the value of industry-oriented education, the transformative power of mentorship, and the ability of Istituto Marangoni Milano Design to prepare its students to become conscious professionals, innovators, and future leaders in the creative industries.
