Zhang Yating’s Soft pop style for MSGM

Zhang Yating is a young Chinese student with a great passion for Fashion. After she graduated in Management from Shanghai Maritime University, she decided to attend a course in Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni Training Centre in Shanghai. Encouraged by her initial successful outcomes, she is now determined to fulfil her dream of becoming a fashion designer. The curricular project than Zhang Yating developed at the end of her second year in the Fashion Design programme, is a young and trendy Spring/Summer 2016 collection developed for MSGM, inspired by Massimo Giorgetti’s Made in Italy brand. After a comparative analysis of competitors, target, prices, and past collections with contemporary fashion trends, Zhang decided to design her collection following the Soft Pop micro trend proposed by WGSN, leading trend forecasting agency in the world. The project is inspired by the “catchy pop” British singer FKA Twigs and also draws on elements from the movie “The grand Budapest Hotel” to create ’80s military looks. The result is a mix of strong shapes and neat cuts softened by the romantic colours of Wes Anderson’s masterpiece.
