Matteo
Lamandini
Matteo Lamandini, I'M Alumnus of the three-year Fashion Design course at Istituto Marangoni Milano Fashion, is an emerging designer best known for his menswear brand MTL Studio.
Born in 1989 in Modena, Matteo started working in the banking world, but soon understood where his true fascination lay: the possibility of reinterpreting the rigour, colours, and codes of classic menswear with irony, craftsmanship, and a more contemporary attitude. This realisation quickly led him away from numbers and accounting to pursue his real path: fashion. He first studied pattern cutting and drawing in Bologna, then completed his education with a three-year Fashion Design diploma at Istituto Marangoni Milano Fashion in 2013, where he consolidated a design language defined by contrasts, nostalgia, and meticulous attention to detail.
He entered the industry with an internship at MSGM, followed by a role as Assistant Menswear Designer at MARNI, an experience that allowed him to refine his stylistic identity and work within international creative contexts. In 2014 he won the prestigious Designer for Tomorrow award, presented by Tommy Hilfiger and promoted by Peek & Cloppenburg. Thanks to the contest, Matteo joined the Hilfiger design team in Amsterdam and designed the capsule collection Matteo Lamandini x Tommy Hilfiger, sold through the Peek & Cloppenburg retail network. The following year, he debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin with his first collection, Tristesse Contemporaine, which received strong acclaim.
In July 2017, he was selected as one of the finalists of WHO IS ON NEXT UOMO, the scouting project promoted by Pitti Immagine, AltaRoma and L’Uomo Vogue.
In 2018 he founded MTL Studio, his personal project that blends Italian tailoring, memory, and provincial identity with a modern, minimalist aesthetic. The brand revisits a simple past, reinterpreting it with a romantic and contemporary language. His creations, defined by strong authenticity, have been worn by artists such as Ghali, J-Ax, and Salmo, and were presented in January 2026 as part of the official Calendar of Milan Men’s Fashion Week.
