The aim of the Master in Digital Art Direction is to train a new professional figure: the so called “nexter”. A Nexter is both a digital art director and a communication strategist, capable of conceiving and managing relevant integrated communication projects. Experts of design for digital communication, by mind set, familiarity with new media, emerging technologies and latest trends, nexters represent a virtuous connection between the world of communication, adv and branding and that of agencies specialized in the use of digital media. The Nexter is a professional figure who combines the creative skills of a digital art director, familiarity with the main communication techniques and the ability to conceive strategic thinking, making mastery of the visual component his strength. Advertising spots, communication campaigns, proper management of social profiles, organization of events, production of branded contents, phygital activations and multimedia installations capable of generating engagement and virtuous word of mouth: the students enrolled in the master will learn how to manage integrated communication strategies for renowned top brands from the fashion and design industries, maintaining underlying consistency across a multiplicity of different touch-points. Expression of individual creativity and design thinking, multidisciplinary experimentation and a “hands on” approach supported by the best professionals in the sector will be encouraged; through the analysis of emerging trends redefining both aesthetics and our contemporary imageries and the identification of meaningful consumer insights, participants will learn how to manage the many elements that set up a communication campaign or inform a branding strategy. Participants will learn how to tap the creative opportunities brought by emerging technologies and new media (augmented reality, virtual reality, video games and metaverses, artificial intelligence, Internet of things, NFTs, etc.). The teaching of the Master in Digital Art Direction is provided through various formulas: (classroom lectures, workshops at McCann spaces, seminars and masterclasses with authoritative exponents of the panorama of advertising, digital communication and visual arts, on-site or virtual visits to creative studios, communication agencies, exhibitions) and is further enriched with a final dissertation and an internship experience.

Graduates will leave as experts in integrated, omnichannel communication strategy, able to leverage advanced technology and innovative thinking to conceptualise and execute impactful, multi-dimensional projects across both traditional and digital platforms.
The programme emphasises adaptability to dynamic social trends, evolving visual culture and the intricate relationship between brands and their audiences – as well as understanding the industry from a design, business and strategic management perspective.
Students will master the essential components of contemporary advertising, including campaign creation, social media strategy, branded content production and multimedia installations that foster engagement and brand loyalty. Additionally, they’ll explore cutting-edge communication techniques influenced by technological advancements such as virtual reality, video gaming and the proliferation of social media content.
The curriculum is rooted in a deep understanding of market dynamics and socio-cultural trends, enabling students to present brands, products and events as modern, appealing and relevant.

The course will run for 15 months in partnership with a prestigious creative agency – giving you access toprofessionals currently working in the industry from day one and throughout the entire course. This ensures sustained engagement, deeper industry exposure and invaluable insights.
The first term introduces fundamental technical and theoretical disciplines in the industry, including communication strategy, planning and production, advanced graphics, digital storytelling and creative writing for media. It also offers insights into emerging trends in the digital landscape and advertising tools and techniques. The second term focuses on practical application, with students engaging in real-world briefs from distinguished brands and ventures, guided by expert tutors. The coursework includes exploration of emerging technologies, culminating in innovative approaches to audience engagement and social media management.
The third term allows students to become independent in their approach and distinguish their own identity within the industry whilst building on the skills learnt in terms 1 and 2. Through this highly specialised programme, participants will develop sophisticated skills, methodologies and creative vision and develop their own creative identity – culminating in the production of advanced, professional-quality projects, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to navigate and shape the future of digital communication and brand storytelling.
