Highlights

Broaden your fashion career horizons

Become fully qualified in the latest fashion and accessories design techniques and expand your career options. Covering clothing and accessories design, these three-year full-time courses encourage individual style and creativity, while also offering the chance to become multi-skilled fashion designers. Participants begin by studying the language of ready to wear, progressing through all stages of the design process including hand sketching, fashion illustration and digital design, pattern making, pattern cutting and construction, right through to the finished garment or product. Focusing on the womenswear and menswear industries, each course also investigates the intrinsic added values and characteristics of an accessories garment or product, understanding how to design products that create desire. During the course participants are encouraged to experiment with new materials and technologies, negotiating for example the use of a flamboyant pairing of fabrics, renewable and sustainable resources, 3D printing or experimental cutting techniques, as well as evaluating fabric embellishment and details that make the ‘difference’ to a winning collection.

Research into fashion history and culture and historic references in art and dress further enhance creative thinking, meanwhile communication skills provide a professional approach in the negotiation and presentation of final design ideas to companies and new clients. At the end of the course selected participants will attend a final graduation event or a fashion show that introduces collections or portfolios to an industry audience – a unique experience opening up industry networking career opportunities.

By selecting a preferred area of study participants have the opportunity to focus in more depth in Womenswear or Menswear during their programme:

Fashion Design & Accessories (Womenswear)

This programme provides a focus on femininity and the changing female silhouette by researching and questioning the impact of ‘shape-shifting’ design through masculinity vs. femininity, challenging tradition, looking at female empowerment and self-awareness and encouraging a real touch of creative flair in womenswear apparel and the competitive womenswear market.

Fashion Design & Accessories (Menswear)

While the division between men and women’s brands is crossing barriers with gender neutral brands, menswear is still a different fashion animal altogether. Not only considering fit, line and attention to detail, menswear designers need to have the creativity and flair to be able to connect with this distinct target audience. This programme also provides key notions in menswear patternmaking and tailoring skills essential to designing high-quality collections.
