A new campus, spaces dedicated to experimentation, and an educational model that strengthens the dialogue between creativity, technology, and industry. For Istituto Marangoni Milano Design, the 2026/27 Academic Year marks the beginning of a new chapter with the opening of its new campus at Via Verri 4, in the heart of Milan’s Fashion District. Just a few steps from Via Montenapoleone, the school has found a new home in a historic building dating back to 1934, completely renovated to welcome an international community of students, faculty, and professionals.

The move represents an evolution that goes far beyond a change of address. The new campus reflects the ambition to create an environment where education, research, and experimentation can coexist, fostering connections with the professional world and encouraging an increasingly interdisciplinary approach to design.

An Architectural Project That Puts Design at Its Heart

Spread across five floors, the new campus has been designed by Studio DIAR Architetti, which has reimagined its spaces to meet the needs of contemporary design education. The experience begins at the entrance, where a tunnel featuring a large digital screen creates a connection between the school and the city, introducing visitors to the identity of Istituto Marangoni Milano Design.

Inside, the architecture engages in a dialogue with a curated selection of furniture and lighting by leading names in Italian design. In the library, Break tables by Cappellini are paired with Cila chairs by Arper and Smithfield lamps by Flos, while the communal areas feature Dalia armchairs and Cannot coffee tables by Cappellini. This approach allows students to engage with design products and solutions on a daily basis, transforming the spaces themselves into learning tools.

The café, study areas, Social Lounges, and panoramic terrace overlooking CityLife complete the project, providing spaces for interaction and collaboration beyond the classroom. The campus also features a dedicated Media & Events Hub, designed to host workshops, conferences, and international events.

From Concept to Prototype: Laboratories at the Heart of Design Education

One of the defining features of the new campus is the Design Hub, which brings together dedicated spaces for modelling, materials research, and prototyping, allowing students to explore every stage of the creative process, from the initial concept to the creation of a physical model.

Particular emphasis is placed on 3D printing, a technology with applications across different fields of study, from product design and interior design to fashion. With the start of the new Academic Year, the laboratory is expanding its facilities with the addition of six new Bambu Lab 3D printers, complementing the three already in place.

The aim is to develop a fully equipped 3D printing farm, enabling students to gradually gain greater autonomy in managing the printing process. The project will be supported by dedicated training sessions within the Open Labs, focusing on operating the equipment, selecting materials, and optimising production processes.

Alongside digital technologies, the laboratory maintains a strong hands-on approach, with equipment such as a thermoforming machine and a dedicated painting area. The opportunity to combine different techniques has already led to experiments ranging from 3D-printed textiles to the creation of concrete objects, demonstrating how technological innovation and craftsmanship can complement and enrich one another.

The laboratory now opens onto a large shared space, making its activities and production processes visible. This layout encourages students’ curiosity, the exchange of skills, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The campus’s technological facilities also include a professional Photo Studio and an AI Production Lab, dedicated to exploring the potential of generative artificial intelligence in digital content creation.

Research and Innovation: The Vision for the New Academic Year

The new campus also embodies an educational vision that connects the heritage of Italian design with emerging technologies and the evolving needs of the industry. A central role is played by the Advanced Design Research Centre, conceived as a permanent platform for research and collaboration between the school and businesses, with a particular focus on innovation in the high-end and luxury sectors.

This approach is reflected in the curriculum for the 2026/27 Academic Year, which combines traditional design disciplines with courses dedicated to emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and immersive experiences. Strengthening the connection with the professional world is a mentorship programme involving internationally renowned designers, including Marcel Wanders, Odoardo Fioravanti, and Elena Salmistraro. The programme offers students the opportunity to engage directly with different design methodologies and professional experiences.

With its new campus on Via Verri, Istituto Marangoni Milano Design further strengthens its ties with Milan and its rich design culture, creating an environment where architecture, education, and research interact on a daily basis. A new campus where the heritage of Italian design meets emerging technologies, equipping students with the tools to interpret and help shape the future of the industry.
