An outstanding costume designer for the latest production by Polish award winning company Song of the Goat Theatre, "Return To The Voice", a musical drama inspired by ancient Gaelic and Scottish music, staged in Edinburgh and London last August. Istituto Marangoni alumna Maria Moiseeva has received commendations and praises for her “living” multi-texture costume designs. Commissioned by Eleven and Summerhall, "Return to the voice" has come to the Battersea Arts Centre of London after the premiere at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It was much more than a concert performance. Its essence is Gaelic tradition combined with polyphonic music, but it is mainly “a work in progress, which slowly transforms into a spectacle” says director Grzegorz Bral. Inspired by contemporary photography and nature, Moiseeva’s costumes have been able to express this harmonious, creative movement through fabric manipulations. She has wisely dressed up 12 actors by knotting, felting and melting materials in order to deliberately change their initial structure and find a balance between strict control of the material and the anarchy of natural fibres. Maria Moiseeva is a Russian designer based in UK. She graduated from Istituto Marangoni London School of Fashion in 2013, and was nominated for a textile prize during London Graduate Fashion Week. She believes that fashion is art and is committed to slowing down high fashion industry honoring the process of creating beautiful things out of nothing. She currently enjoys her art career as a hobby, working on personal projectsand private customers. The costumes she created for the performance "Return to The Voice" are her most recent success. “It has been such an honour working as a costume designer for the Song of the Goat Theatre, together with the best director Grzegorz Bral” she said. © Photograph Mateusz Bral
