Held under the dedicated patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Dubai Design Week is a platform for regional design as well as a catalyst for the growth of the creative community in Dubai.

It is one of the region’s most important cultural events, and each year its varied programme takes place in d3, and includes the UAE's leading design fair, exhibitions, installations, competitions, talks and workshops across multiple creative disciplines.

While Dubai Design Week looks to the future, the event also celebrates traditional skills, and showcases several designers who have found new ways of incorporating time-honoured crafts into their work.

This year, the event took place from 8-13^th November, and included Downtown Design (introducing international furnishings to the UAE market), and The UAE Designer Exhibition (which shone the spotlight on local designers).

A couple of pieces that particularly stood out were a wood-framed Love chair by design studio      Zufa in Bahrain, a complementary set of curved chairs that stick together. The Bauhaus movement also influenced the generous proportions of Fratelli by      Mario Gagliardi for      Baaya, a wood framed, upholstered chair. There was also the unmissable Cosmic Candy by   Form, a collection of non-traditional mirrors rendered in glass, marble and wood, inspired by the cosmos, and the “structures and dynamics of cosmic energy, space, and time.”

Istituto Marangoni Dubai

In September 2022, International Design School Istituto Marangoni inaugurated its new campus in Dubai. A creative melting pot of      Italian heritage, UAE tradition, and international influences, its campus is located inside the Dubai International Financial Centre, and offers a variety of undergraduate and professional courses in Fashion, and the various branches of design. Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space.
