Is Chinese womenswear finally gaining momentum? Three Shenzhen brands at Milan Fashion Week SS27

What does Shenzhen’s fashion scene bring to Chinese womenswear? At Milan Fashion Week SS27, Laurèl, IDPAN and YINER explored craftsmanship, nature, and the value of slowing down

Oct 07, 2026

Scale is the easiest way to talk about Chinese womenswear. At Milan Fashion Week SS27, Shenzhen’s Futian district offered an international audience another way to look at it: what traces does time leave on clothing? Laurèl, IDPAN, and YINER approached this question through craftsmanship, the marks left by nature, and a woman’s right to set her own pace. What can these three Shenzhen brands reveal about an emerging fashion scene that remains rarely discussed outside China?

Why Did Shenzhen Fashion Brands Show at Milan Fashion Week?

Futian is home to four of China’s top ten high-end womenswear brands and accounts for roughly a quarter of Shenzhen’s fashion sector. The district’s fashion industry brings together more than 2,600 companies and around 400,000 professionals, with combined revenues reported at roughly RMB 566.3 billion.

In recent years, Futian has invested heavily in fashion, supporting brands, infrastructure, and creative initiatives. That investment has taken local labels onto the official calendars of major international fashion weeks through Shenzhen Futian Fashion Day.

Futian has now returned to Milan Fashion Week through its collaboration with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. At the Rotonda della Besana, Laurèl, IDPAN and YINER presented their Spring/Summer 2027 collections, each offering a unique interpretation of a shared theme: time. Balancing craftsmanship and innovation, nature and urban culture, these collections explored different ways of considering contemporary femininity and the relationship between heritage and modernity.

What Is Shenzhen’s Answer to AI in Fashion? Keeping Craftsmanship Current

With Tribute to Craftsmanship: Modern Serenity, IDPAN asks what craftsmanship can bring in an age of AI-driven fashion and accelerated production.

Drawing inspiration from Italy’s artistic and architectural heritage, the brand reflects on manual work as both a cultural and creative asset. For IDPAN, craftsmanship does not belong to the past. Instead, it carries experience, identity, and human sensitivity into technology-driven processes.

During the event, the designer put it plainly: “We live in the age of AI, but a designer must have a soul to create. Artificial intelligence cannot replace creativity.” The collection balances production efficiency with human intervention, and innovation with savoir-faire.

The brand envisions a woman who is contemporary, independent, and self-aware. She does not build her style around rules or external expectations. As the designer explained, “A woman’s style is an extension of her personality.” Individual expression takes precedence over conforming to trends.

How Do Chinese Fashion Brands Approach Nature and Contemporary Womenswear?

With Nature Imprint, YINER explores the relationship between time, nature, and contemporary femininity. The collection takes inspiration from the traces time leaves on the natural world: the veins of a leaf, the layers of a seashell, and surfaces sculpted by wind, water, and light. These elements become starting points for a reflection that turns fashion into a dialogue between landscape and personal experience.

For the brand, time is a force that leaves tangible marks on matter. Textures, colours and silhouettes evoke the evolving natural world, carrying memory, growth, and transformation into the clothing.

The designer described the starting point as “wind, flowing water, and light,” which translate into lightweight materials, fluid movement, and luminous surfaces. Lightness and structure, spontaneity and refinement converge in these clothes.

At the heart of YINER’s vision is a woman defined by three values: “elegance, comfort, and self-confidence.” According to the designer, she should not feel constrained by social roles or expectations, but free to express her personality fully.

Milan is part of this picture, too: now present in the city for the third time, YINER continues to draw inspiration from Made in Italy for its collections.

Can Chinese Luxury Fashion Slow Down? When Time Becomes a Design Idea

With Layers of Time, Laurèl suggests that true luxury begins with rediscovering one’s personal rhythm.

Founded in Munich in 1978 and now part of Shenzhen-based Ellassay Group, the brand treats time as something to interpret, not chase. The collection brings together the rationality of Bauhaus aesthetics and Milan’s cultural heritage, creating a dialogue between order, proportion and human sensitivity.

This perspective evolved within the tension between rigour and humanity. The collection balances structure with fluidity, discipline with freedom, precision with naturalness. The idea extends to Laurèl’s view of femininity and the present moment.

Layers of Time does not seek to measure time. At its core is a woman who resists the speed of contemporary life and instead defines her own pace, leaving room to observe, create and engage with everyday life more consciously.

What Can Fashion Preserve Without Standing Still?

How can fashion interpret the present without being overwhelmed by its speed? IDPAN responds through craftsmanship, YINER through the marks left by the natural world, and Laurèl by setting a different pace.

At the Rotonda della Besana, these three collections, brought together by Shenzhen’s Futian district, offered distinct visions of what fashion should preserve and carry into our shared future.
