Fashion Design & Image Styling
The immersive virtual course in Fashion Design & Image Styling is a one-year comprehensive program aimed at equipping students with essential skills in fashion design, image styling, and digital knowledge.
The structure of this innovative course includes four virtual blocks across two semesters, with the opportunity onsite experiential week. Through a structured study plan, students engage with subjects that develop both creative and technical expertise in the fashion industry, preparing them for contemporary challenges and opportunities.
What sets this course apart from other online courses? First, it combines fashion design and styling, with styling supporting the presentation of the collection. It’s called “image” due to its focus on image-making and virtual fashion. But it’s much more than this: the Immersive One Year Course goes beyond photography, exploring various forms of visual language and design: photography, graphic design, and illustration.
The blended methodology applied for the course in Fashion Design & Image Styling allows participants to learn the fundamentals of Fashion Design & Visual Communication while experiencing a new immersive, interactive educational method:
- Asynchronous Content on Demand: Cultural and technical fundamentals are delivered through on-demand modules, allowing students to absorb essential knowledge flexibly, at their own pace. This enables a strong foundational understanding in areas like design principles and digital tools and serve as an audiovisual library to guide the student in project-based assessments.
- Immersive Virtual Live Learning: Live sessions in the virtual spaces of Istituto Marangoni | 12 are designed to encourage experimentation and style development. These interactive classes provide a dynamic space for students to test ideas, explore personal style, and receive immediate feedback, helping to refine their creative direction.
- Project Review and Coaching: Personalized project reviews offer tailored mentorship, guiding each student in developing a unique creative formula and portfolio. These reviews ensure students’ work aligns with creative academic guidance and showcases their distinct style, preparing them for a contemporary fashion project, from fabric-designed garments to digital ones.
Thanks to the immersive experience in the metaverse, the course has been designed to offer participants greater flexibility during the online academic year, while also providing the opportunity to spend an experiential week at the Milan Fashion School. Participants will have the chance to take part in various hands-on lessons within the laboratories, gaining insight into the dynamics of the fashion and communication industries:
- Fitting: Provides hands-on experience with garment fitting, allowing students to apply and refine their garment design.
- Field Trip / Exhibition: Offers exposure to fashion events, exhibitions, and industry settings.
- Guest Speakers / Master Class: Features insights from industry professionals, including master classes on relevant fashion topics.
- Brand/Showroom Visit: Allows students to experience the inner workings of a fashion brand or showroom.
- Photo Shooting: Engages students in a professional photoshoot environment to apply photography and styling techniques.

· Art & Fashion Culture: Explores the historical and cultural intersections between art and fashion, enhancing understanding of fashion’s influence on the 20th Century and the contemporary fashion system.
· Style Analysis & Fashion Exploration: Teaches how to analyze, interpret, and contextualize fashion trends across different creative and cultural scenarios.
· Pattern Cutting 1: Introduces foundational pattern-making techniques essential for garment construction.
· Fundamentals of Fashion Photography: Covers the basics of fashion photography, focusing on composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.
Block 2 – Research, Materials, and Digital Illustration
· Collection Research & Storytelling: Guides students through research methodologies and narrative-building processes for a cohesive fashion collection.
· Fabrics & Materials: Provides in-depth knowledge of textiles, fabric properties, and material selection critical to fashion design.
· AI-Driven Digital Illustration: Introduces AI-powered tools for digital illustration, enhancing efficiency and creativity in the digital design process.
· Graphic Design: Develops graphic design skills applied to fashion presentations, communication, and branding.

· Virtual Display & Avatar Lab: Experiments with virtual displays and avatar modeling, connecting digital fashion with immersive and virtual environments.
This course has the same educational value as a Fashion Design One Year course done in the traditional way, since it provides the fundamentals of both fashion design and visual communication, which are essentials if participants want to enter the fashion and communication professional world.
