Fashion Design PG course is a 1-year intensive course that takes the students from expressing unique design ideas to engaging the wider fashion community through analogue and digital media.

 

SHANGHAI

This is an intensive 3 semester course that leverages all research and design methods to express ideas and to develop high end fashion products for well curated runway ready collections. The student work on all technical and creative aspects and produce major projects with digital connections. In the final semester the collection will be for the metaverse leveraging 360 digital freedoms for avatar and skins design.

Fashion Design Course is split into three semesters:

Semester 1

Students will develop innovative conceptual ideas based on thorough cultural research, considering contemporary geopolitical trends. Maximizing the volume of ideas, finding the unique design language and expressing creative intentions clearly through the language of fashion. Students will produce 3 fully finished looks as part of a 6 looks collection portfolio.

The main areas of study are:

  • Reflecting, reviewing, and interpreting information
  • Trends analysis and forecasting
  • Influence of art movements, culture, society, and economics on fashion
  • Embellishments, decorative arts, new textiles, and technology
  • Conceptual and technical creativity
  • Design visual representation and digital print
  • Visual semiotics

Semester 2

Students will aim to develop innovative, future-proof strategies in fashion design, leveraging digital technology to create and present new concepts. This unit will emphasize fashion collection development, storytelling, digitally augmented design methods, and concept building. Design exploration will integrate physical and virtual elements, driven by textile research and innovation studies. The presentation of collections will encompass digital marketing strategies and engaging proposals to reach a broader audience.

  • Collection analysis and concept building
  • Analysis of future trends in behaviour and attitudes
  • Collection planning and costing
  • Sustainable pattern cutting (Zero waste) and fabric usage costing
  • Digitally augmented design methods and digital 3D design presentation
  • Textile research and innovation
  • Storytelling across mediums and platforms
  • Digital culture and marketing

Semester 3

Students will create a unique design development tool kit to distinguish themselves in a dynamic industry, strategize across fields, and collaborate effectively. They will develop collections with clear messages based on strong principles, emphasizing sustainability and quality. Students will develop metaversial collections by utilising cutting edge mix of software and apps and will present a fully art directed CGI portfolio.

  • Graphic design & digital portfolio (incl. moving image)
  • Digitalisation in fashion / VR project
