Firenze The School of Fashion & Art

The place where you can find fashion, art and tradition

Known around the world for its art, Firenze needs no introduction, nevertheless under its exquisite façade the city also has another story to tell. Art, craftsmanship and made in Italy excellence are not concepts frozen in time, they evolve and grow, and in no place is that more evident than the Firenze School of Fashion and Art, where participants not only learn about the creation, practice, curation and promotion of art, and of fashion, but also the new languages in multimedia and artistic visual communication, exploring new cross-pollination in the fields of digital arts, media and new technologies. At the same time, participants will learn how to make the most of the wealth of materials and textiles this city has to offer, enhancing them with new concepts of craftsmanship and as inspiration in fashion design. Whether art & culture directly influence the design of luxury accessories and jewellery, provide the exclusive setting for fashion shows that debut the most talked about collections, or promote Italian sartorial tradition or innovation in Menswear, Istituto Marangoni Firenze School speaks to a truly contemporary audience.

Paul Andrew is the New Mentor at Istituto Marangoni Firenze

A return that feels both natural and significant: Paul Andrew is once again collaborating with Istituto Marangoni Firenze, this time in the role of new Mentor. The British designer, whose career spans some of the most influential players in contemporary luxury, renews a long-standing connection with the Florentine institution and the talent it nurtures. “I’ve worked with them in the past and it’s such an amazing school. I’ve hired three people from that school since then — that’s how good they are. So I’m thrilled to be back in a more official way doing this,” said Andrew, highlighting a genuine relationship with the new generation of creatives.

Marking this new chapter is the launch of the scholarship contest NEW ATTITUDE: Redefining Luxury for a New Generation, an initiative designed to capture the evolving meaning of luxury through the eyes of emerging talents. Candidates are invited to present a bold, contemporary, and personal interpretation of what luxury means today.

The project involves the Annual Courses — Fashion Design, Shoes and Accessories Design, and Embroidery and Pattern-Making — as well as the Master’s Courses — Fashion Design, Luxury Accessories Design & Management, and Fashion, Art & Textile Innovation — outlining a multidisciplinary path that spans different approaches, languages, and creative perspectives. An invitation to explore luxury not as a static code, but as an evolving territory capable of reflecting new sensibilities, new aesthetics, and new generations of creatives.

Andrew’s career has always been defined by a refined balance between craftsmanship and innovation. From his years at Salvatore Ferragamo, where he served as Creative Director from 2016 to 2021 and contributed to the brand’s evolving identity, to his more recent experience at Sergio Rossi, his work is distinguished by a deep focus on form, structure, and materiality. An almost architectural approach, as he often describes it, which transforms accessories into objects that merge aesthetic research and functionality.

This same vision now guides the evolution of his brand Paul Andrew, founded in 2013 and relaunched in 2022, currently entering a new phase of growth. Alongside the strengthening of its footwear business, Andrew has recently announced the expansion into handbags, with a debut scheduled for Spring 2027. A natural extension of his creative language, driven by the desire to offer a coherent and complete vision in which form and function continuously interact. Deeply rooted in Italian craftsmanship and increasingly connected to the Tuscan territory, Andrew further reinforces his relationship with Florence — a connection that now also translates into a direct commitment to mentoring the next generation of designers.

Tod’s Group Special Partner

Istituto Marangoni Firenze further enriches the Innovative Accessories Challenge with the entry of Tod’s Group as Special Partner of the initiative, confirming the high profile of the project and its strong connection with the excellence of Made in Italy.

On the occasion of this important collaboration, the application deadline has been extended to May 1st, 2026, offering young designers under 30 an additional opportunity to apply and present their creative vision in the field of contemporary accessories.

The Challenge

The Innovative Accessories Challenge, created in collaboration with Sara Sozzani Maino, invites participants to explore new expressive possibilities in accessories design, placing experimentation, material research, responsible innovation, and the dialogue between craftsmanship and new production techniques at its core.

The objective is to move beyond the traditional concept of the accessory, interpreting it instead as an expressive medium, a wearable sculpture, or a functional object capable of interacting with both the body and its surrounding environment.

Tod’s Group: artisanal excellence and contemporary vision

The Tod’s Group represents one of the highest expressions of Italian luxury on an international level. Long synonymous with craftsmanship, quality, and savoir‑faire, Tod’s Spa combines manufacturing tradition with a contemporary vision, creating iconic footwear and accessories that embody the excellence of Made in Italy.

“Supporting the next generation of designers means investing in the future: innovation and craftsmanship are pillars of our DNA. This is why we chose to take part in the Innovative Accessories Challenge.”
Carlo Alberto Beretta
General Manager Brand Tod’s

Challenge Awards and TOD’S Group Special Mention

The original awards of the Innovative Accessories Challenge remain unchanged:

  • the production and prototyping of the selected project, which may be showcased during the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Istituto Marangoni Firenze.

The two awards may also be assigned to different candidates, at the discretion of the jury.

In addition, the following TOD’S Group Special Mention is introduced:

  • the opportunity to undertake a curricular internship at Tod’s Spa

Jury and Applications

Projects will be evaluated by a high‑profile international jury composed of leading professionals and key figures from the fashion and accessories industry, including Paul Andrew, Giuliano Calza, Edward Buchanan, Nicolò Beretta, Anna Dello Russo, Sabrina Scarpellini, and, of course, Sara Sozzani Maino.

With Tod’s S.p.A. joining as Special Partner, the jury is further  expanded with Carolina Pelizza, Tod’s Leather Goods Designer, strengthening the dialogue between education, creativity, and the luxury industry.
